My hubby and tomatoes...?!

Question: When my hubby was a kid instead of washing his mouth out with soap they washed it out with condiments...mustard but mostly ketchup..
Now he wont eat anything with condiments!! No ketchup no tomatoes...is there any way to hide these in there when I make dinner??
Is it bad for you NOT to eat them??

I believe tomatoes contain lycopene which help prevent cancer. They also contain lots of vitamins. You might be able to get away with hiding some in meatloaf if you don't use too much.

You can also hide a can of tomato soup in a Tomato Soup Cake which tastes like a moist spice cake - he'd never know it contained the soup - you can't taste it. Just let him know it's a spice cake. Now, if he has an allergy to tomatoes - don't do it.

It's not bad for you NOT to eat them, as long as he gets his vitamins that normally are in tomatoes, from other veggies. Lycopene is what makes the red color in tomatoes and other red fruits and veggies. It is an antioxident and the body uses it to make Vitamin A. Remember you can also get Vitamin A from carrots. So, surf the web on tomatoes, see what they contain, and then surf what they contain to see what other fruits and veggies contain the same things. If hubby eats those instead, then he's good to go.

Not Bad just a psychological thing in his head. My sister was like that with Beans She eventually ate them.

There's nothing terribly nutritious about ANY condiments. If he doesn't eat them... there's no crucial dietary supplement he's missing. Tomatoes have some nutritional value, but not a lot. I'm sure he gets what he needs with other foods.

(He had very cruel parents... how sad. That was a terrible way to teach a child values)

Well it isn't bad for him not to eat them, as long as he gets the proper nutrition from other things. I don't suggest you hid them in the food. My father did that to my brother once (with shrimp) and he threw up.

There is nothing beneficial in eating condiments. if he does not like them then why try to sneak them in his food? You can't just respect that ?

Wow- I never heard of that before. Meatloaf has just a little bit of ketchup in it. You could let him have a bite and see if it’s ok. I guess you just have to give up on spaghetti, chili, Italian stews.

I don't think there's anything wrong with not eating contiments (besides the emotional/psychological scare his parents imprinted on him). If you truly must cook with ketchup or tomatoes blend them into meatloaf. Really can't even tell its there.

I think it sounds like a psychological thing. And no, its not bad if you dont eat ketchup or mustard or anything. The nutrients and minerals and vitamins in condiments are in many other foods as well, so I would guess hes getting all that he needs in the other meals you cook. I dont eat vegatables and im fine. At least I think so.
