Stewing beef?!

Question: I'm currently cooking a beef stew in my crock pot. It's been on high for about 4.5hours and on low for about an hour. Is it okay if the beef is still a little pink or does it have to be completely brown?

It should be cooked fine, a little pink is o.k. Does the beef break apart with a fork?.. if so it is ready... If you are really concerned check the temperature of your stew with a meat thermometer. Sounds yummy, .....you have made me hungry now!

its fine
eat it
beef can be eaten practically raw

It is ok to eat it pink, but I can't figure out why it still would be pink if you have been cooking it for 5.5 hours.

With stew, the tenderness of the meat, rather than the color is the best indicator of doneness. If the meat is fork tender, but still a little pink, then it's fine to eat it. It really depends on your taste.

Some cuts of stew beef must be cooked a long time before they are tender. If that's the case, the meat will likely be "well-done" when it is tender.

Yes, it can be pink, but the recommended method is to brown it in a saute' pan before putting it in the crockpot. Then, cook it low and slow--which means medium heat for 6-8 hours depending on how much meat is in the stew. Potatoes, celery and carrotts should not go in at the same time as the meat because they cook much quicker.

4.5 hrs on high + 1hr on low and still pink ???? I think you need a new crockpot , or did you put everything in frozen?????
