Thanksgiving sweet potatoes...will this work?!
Answers: I want to make a yam dish with dried cranberries, pecans, cinnamon, nutmeg, raisins, brown sugar and what ever else would be good in it. Everyone is sick of sweet potato casserole. Will my dish work? Is anything missing or anything that would make it better? Suggestions!
If you don't want a casserole make sweet potato fries and make a cranberry cinnamon dipping sauce. If not you idea sounds great. If you want make a small portion of it for yourself and taste it before to make sure its all right.
JUST WHATEVER YOU DO AVOID THE MARSHMALLOWS.
Sounds good to me.. what time and where?
I don't think the dried cranberries would be great, but that could just be me. I'd suggest raisins instead. Put all that in a casserole, then sprinkle bits of butter over it. That'll mix with the brown sugar for a nice syrupy coating. It should be good. You don't want to over do adding things, or you'll lose the flavor of the sweet potatoes. Cut the potatoes in chunks, not slices. Periodically spoon the syrup over it during baking.
i don't know, what is wrong with just baked in the skin sweet potatoes with butter, salt, and pepper? yeah, i get sick of the casserole, too.
I might add a little butter to add a richness and some kind of liquid to plump the raisins. You could use orange, or apple juice, rum, or fruit flavored brandy.
I wouldn't do it ON a major holiday If it isn't up to snuff you are the Che-drool!
i would just cook them in the skin and melt a glaze of brown sugar, butter, nutmeg and pecans with a cinnamon sprinkle on top.add glaze after cooking and split.
also you can make an accorn squash by cutting in half, removing the seeds, putting the halves in a deep glass dish upside down with a few tablespoons of water, cover and cook in microwave a few minutes to desired softness,(check by inserting fork), and then put the above ingred.with xtra butter in the middle of squash and bake till top is bubbling and brown.350o oven.make sure you put some glaze on the edges of squash.
Sounds good, be sure to plump up the dried cranberries in some hot water before using. If there's not a lot of moisture in your recipe the cranberries may not soften and you will have chewy lumps in your casserole. You might want to use orange juice instead of water to make them more flavorful.
Maybe some maple syrup
I sometimes mix some sweet potatoes with white potato and mash them. It is not so sweet and tastes great.
