Has the meat industry gone too far?!
Is it really necessary to have venison ( deer meat ), rabbits, veal ( calf meat ), and white veal ( anemic calf meat ).
Answers: We already have beef, poultry, pork, mutton, lamb, and seafood.

As long as people buy the meat, the meat people will continue slaughtering animals for it. You forgot buffalo though. I can't stand thinking about the number of animals that are slaughtered every year and the meat just goes into the bin.
Who cares?
Did you know guinea pigs are on the menu in Peru?
What's wrong with a little variety? Beef is still the best.
I don't know what mutton is (yeah, I'm stupid) but lamb is nasty...
I once saw "beef" jerky that was made out of emu before...disgusting. I saw it at like Big Lots or something like that.
Let me guess... you're vegetarian. Well, rabbit and deer have been on the human menu probably alot longer than domesticated cow and pig. You forgot Ostrich, Emu, Buffalo, Kangaroo, Alligator and probably several others.
I'm not against domesticating animals for use as food. I'm not sure I like the idea of force-feeding geese to fatten their livers (foie gras), or penning calves in such a way to make them not move much in order to have more tender meat (veal). I find that basically akin to torture.
All that meat has been used for centuries. I'm not sure why you think this is a new thing.
What about geese, squab (pigeon), game hens (young chickens), suckling pigs, snake meat, raccoon, opossum, frog legs, the seven flavors of turtle meat, the list goes on and on. Oh, what is called buffalo in the US is the American Bison. Lamb and mutton is the same animal just age or sex makes the difference. Man has been eating meat both domesticated and wild for tens of thousands of years.
My family only eats Buffalo, Deer and wild game as it is much healthier than the store bought over fattened slaughter house meat.
I suppose they are just offering what people want.
Not too far at all. There is absolutely no question that all four sources you mention (and more) are necessary in order to provide us with varied, healthy, and flavorful sources of protein in our diets and challenges to our culinary imaginations.
