Poor Student Food?!


Question: I was wondering what I could do to spruce up my poor student food. I have about $3-4 every day for food. Typically I spend it on Ramen, cans of beans, potatoes, ravioli, etc.
The problem is, I am extremely sick of eating this almost every day.
What would you suggest I do to vary up my meals? But still stay on my tight budget of $3-4/ day. Any recipe ideas?
Is this question too hard because I can't think of anything...

Try shopping by the week 21 dollars to 28 dollars, can help u go further with ur food buck. Keep tuna on hand also they sell those noodle pack like Alfredo, chicken flavor that cost like a $1.45, there inst.potato's just add water, don't laugh but some people still eat spam, there is Hamburger Helper cook once eat twice spaghetti meatballs, flavored rices like rice a roni.Oatmeal for breakfast, peanut butter and jelly for lunch and Hamburger Helper for dinner, and you eat it the next day for lunch or dinner.

You should be able to get a bag of chicken for about $6.00 , you need to be on a weekly budget and not a daily .. You can do a million thing with chicken and you should have about a piece of chicken a night to work with !!

Get bags of frozen chicken breast and rice you'll need to cook in order to keep costs down, no fast food it saves you a lot of money to just cook at home you can make chicken so many different ways.

cereal for breakfast, soup or salad for lunch, stock up on canned or frozen veggies when they go on sale, so you can at least get something healthy in your diet. boneless chicken breast are about $4 for 3, so that will last you 3 days. Buy a big box of bisquick and you can make buscuits, cookies, pancakes, ect.

There are some good ways to spice up the Ramen Noodles.

Try buying frozen bags of veggies and adding that to the Ramen. The chicken would be good too!!

Poach the chicken in a crock pot or a pan of water on the stove. Pull off all the cooked chicken meat and put it in the fridge or freezer. You can add it to the Ramen.

The water that you cooked the chicken in can be de-fatted by putting it in the fridge overnight (strain it first). A fat cap will form on the top and you just pull it off.

Cook your Ramen using this water

Mac and Cheese (generic brands are cheaper).
Rice-a-roni type dishes (again, go with generic brands).

To "spark up" what you are already eating try adding just a bit of ground beef or generic velveeta cheese to some of them. Also, be sure to check out the "Reduced for quick sale" areas in meat, dairy and produce as often as you can.

i get chicken leg quarters for less than a dollar a pound. you could also do a big batch of chili if you have fridge room. same thing with veg. soup. chicken or cheap cuts of beef work well with frozen vegs. keep simmering it, that cheap stew beef will get tender.

get some salad!! a bag of salad and a couple of tomatoes are not that expensive and will last several days.

Let's see, that is about $28 for a week. You can get some chicken and dice it up to put on top of the salad.

spaghetti and jar sauce, kraft mac n cheese, rice a roni, malt o meal brand cereals, canned vegetables, i made a huge pot of chili for $10 and it lasted me 7 days!!!! you can do this with a pot of sourkraut and hotdogs, vegetable soup.....

eggs are fairly cheap...scramble, soft boil, hard boil
generic mac and cheese
chicken thighs, hot dogs,tuna
still get Ramen noodles
potatoes...baked, boiled, home fries, etc
genric muffin mixes
plain macaroni
creamed soups to mix with macaroni
