Can I freeze food in a crock pot?!
Answers: Basically what I have in mind is making black-eyed peas with the hambone, in the crock pot, then I want to freeze it there, and a day or two before actually heating it, I can place it in the fridge to slowly thaw, then put it on low to heat up again at the time I plan on serving this.
The crock pot isn't just a dish. It contains electrical components and freezing them can lead to damaging them, so it isn't a good idea. Also, the non-electrical materials of the crock pot are designed to endure heat, not cold temperatures, so freezing it can place undue strain on it.
?
if you put it in a really cold place - yep
If it's ceramic it will break if frozen, filled actually any crock pot not a good idea.
Freezing it in the crock pot is not a good idea. Your pot could crack. Use another type of container to store it until ready to use.Freezer containers are cheap ... crock pots are not!
Okay, while it's technically possible to freeze something in the container of your crockpot you want to avoid doing so for a couple of reasons.
a) most older crockpot containers are not meant to be frozen.
b) when reheating you need to have the container at room temperature to make sure you don't encourage bacterial growth which could lead to food poisoning. The food can be chilled but the container need to be warmer than that.
So the correct answer is....
No!
You can put your crock pot in the freezer. You might break it though.
I Know from "Experience" that it causes small hair line cracks in the ceramic pot, then as it heats up the cracks will get BIGGER! then you will hear a "POP" as the ceramic cracks all the way across the bottom or the side spilling its contents all over the electrical parts and counter top!
Then you'll have to throw it in the trash and go buy a new one!
This is a mistake I made years ago when I first started cooking..............
The best thing to do is use a "slow cooker liner" to cook your black-eyed peas & hambone, then after cooking tie the top of the linner, lift it out and freeze it, then just thaw the linner with black-eyed peas & hambone in fridge, put it back into the **** pot and reheat it!
And becaues your useing a liner, theres no messy clean up after cooking!
anything that you cook can be freeze and label.!!
