Did anyone ever cook the bag of giblets in the turkey?!
Answers: I did once when I was first married in a whole chicken. My mother never really taught me anything about cooking. Boy were my husband and I surprised. lol
Sister, thats happened at our house a few times, but the funniest story I ever heard was when someone went and stuffed the turkey with some Cornish hens. They were playing a trick on the person who had purchased the turkey, and I gather from the story that they were not just a little naive. When they cut the turkey and exposed the Cornish hens everyone was so surprised to see that their turkey was a mommy with babies.
Yes, I've done it before too when I was first learning to cook. No big deal.....it's a "right of passage". LOL. Happy Thanksgiving.......
no not in the turkey. Take them out, and boil in a pan of water for about an hour with a stick of celery, a carrot and a small onion. Drain liquid and get rid of the giblets etc. Add the turkey juice to the water and thicken for a fabulous gravy.
I've never done it but my neice did. She was quite thrilled thought the she'd bought a pre-stuffed bird, ha, ha.
Yes, a couple of times. Once when I was learning to cook. And once when we could not find the little bag in the neck. After we cut up the turkey, we found it shoved deep inside the turkey. I guess they have machines that tuck away the bags and the machine did too good a job.
The idiot I was, I forget to take it out of the neck cavity last year. Turkey turned out alright though.
Traditionally the giblets are for making the gravy. You chop them, saute a little onion and carrot and celery, add your giblets, cover with water and cook until the giblets are tender. This can take awhile and you may have to top up the water. You can add bay leaf, rosemary or whatever herbs you like.
This broth serves as the base for your gravy; add the pan juices and cook down somewhat (white wine or not, is up to you). Then thicken. Voila, turkey gravy.
Yes, I have also. But the worse was when I put biscuts in the oven then forgot and left the house. when I came home the fire department was there airing out the house. Smoke had filled the entire house and rolled out the windows. I told my husband I think dinner is ready.
No but I love Don's story I may do that this year.
Heck yeah, my first Thanksgiving. I was looking all over for them to make a stock for extra gravy. Now I make it a day ahead, so I never forget.
Never did, but only lucky to find them. I cook them for the doggies.
I grind the bag of guts in a meat grinder and add to the stuffing.
Yes,I never knew about being giblets in the cavity,I got my hand stuck one year, that was something
