Ive had a turkey in the freezer since April, do you yhink its still good or should I can it?!
If it is freezer burned, you will be able to see the damage and can either trim it away or toss the whole thing, however, shrink-wrapped birds tend not to be susceptible to freezer burn (which is caused by air and freeze/thaw cycles).
Alternately, you could just turn the whole thing into turkey stock and not have to worry about eating the meat.
Good luck!
Answers: If it's been solidly frozen and in its original wrapper, I would thaw it and use it. It should be fine. I just cooked one last weekend that I got at Easter with no problems.

i wouldnt..
it might have freezer bite
and taste icky
How cold is your freezer? If it's less than 10oF it should be ok, especially if it still in the original wrapping. Higher than 10o I'd throw the darn thing out!
.
it's gonna be freezer burned. like rly freezer burned. don't eat it, it won't be good or fresh tasting or anything. of course it won't be liek freezer burned the same way ice cream is cuz u cook it, but it'll be bad
i wouldn't even if I still ate meat.. Meat made me sick so I became vegetarian! Vegetarian isn't for everyone though!
I wouldn't serve it to guests. Turkeys aren't expensive. Just get a new one.
Use the old one as a practice so you can perfect your turkey cooking techniques perhaps?
Good luck.
When in doubt, throw it out!!
Everything I've read and heard says that poultry is good up to a year in the freezer. I've cooked and eaten turkey that has spent about 6 months in the freezer and it was absolutely fine.
Its probably edible, if your starving but alot of grocery store give free ones away just for spending 100 bucks.
As someone who spent considerable years in the poultry proccessing industry, i can assure you its safe to eat, as long as your freezer works ok......in fact i bet that supermarts would often be selling turkeys that they had in storage for more than a year........
All that happens when food is frozen over time is:
1. The ice crystals become larger, thus causing greater liquid loss on unfreezing
2. Evaporation or "freeze drying" or "burning"
3. Discolouration and loss of food quality
This usually begins to takes place in a household freezer after six weeks and increased deterioration with time.
As a rule of thumb, you NEVER refreeze a thawed bird, but if it has remained at a constant frozen temperature it will be safe, but not at its premium. I would moist cook it, (crock pot, simmer, or defrost it and portion cook it slowly whilst basting.
Store bought birds can be 12 weeks old before you purchase them, and with open top freezers, they aren't kept as well as in your home freezer. So go for it, with a bit of care it will be fine.
I would get a new one .freeze burned turkey is a hazzard and waste of time to cook it.
