Oh No!!! - Forgot to Soak my Split Peas?!

Question: Hiya - I just started making a pea and ham soup that I've made before, chopped and fried all the veggies, was just about to add the split peas when I realised I was supposed to have soaked them overnight first. What can I do? Am I going to have to start again tomorrow or can I just cook them for longer. I don't really want to waste all the veg. OR... is there any way I can save the fried Onion, celery, carrots, leek & garlic overnight?

Thanks all

I never presoak the peas.. but it might take longer for them to cook?? I always use my slow cooker (crock pot ) for my pea soup..

I almost never presoak my peas. I rinse them and cook with a ham bone or ham hock until almost done then add veggies.

It is not a train smash, cook them with water in a pressure cooker untill soft and then add the rest of the veggies and cook it further in your normal soup pot.

I've never soaked split peas overnight - your soup will be fine. Keep cooking it and the peas will soften, I guarantee.

no just clean them very good, and boil them before adding everything else.ive done that before too, dont feel bad

Too late now of course, but I think I'd zap 'em in the microwave covered with water.

You don't need to pre soak the split peas. Just sort thru them to check for small rocks, rinse, and toss in with everything else. They will soften up while cooking.

You have a recipe that calls for soaking split peas. That's rather unique . Send me a Email I'd love to see it or where is it published??
