Vegetable Oil...................?!
Answers: Can you reuse Vegetable oil from a deep fryer? Also, what is a good way to dispose of it besides putting it in a jar and letting it sit under my sink forever? :)
Yes, you can reuse it but for frying and not much else. In fact, the more you use it, the more flavor it gets and your food get browner. As for disposing of it, just put the jar in the trash. I hope this doesn't mean you're only using your oil once? That's a bit of a waste. You can reuse it many many many times over.
Just use it up every time you need some.
Mandy,
Vegetable oil can be recycled, if you want to pour it off into a sealable bucket (get one free from a local restaurant or grocer). When you have the bucket nearly full, take it to a company that will recycle it. I know it is a bit of "trouble" to do so, but it really is one small way we can all contribute.
At my restaurant, we try to recycle everything even though it is a bit of a "pain" sometimes.
Yes you can reuse it - BUT!!! In the "good old days", they told you that you could reuse the oil over and over to deep fry foods. They have found now that every time you heat up the oil, it gains more and more transfats - even if you start with peanut oil or Canola oil. So, with that in mind, use it in the deep fryer once, then dole it out for your other recipes in the skillet or just get an old coffee can (can find them at the Goodwill store for about 50 cents), pour your old oil into that and when full, put the lid on it and put it in the garbage. We live in the sticks so we take it to the dump where they have a place to dump different kinds of oil (like from changing oil on the car and my vegetable oil). I kept the oil in the house in a coffee can. When it was full, my hubby poured it into a 5 gallon plastic container with a lid, in our building. When that 5 gallon container was full, we would then take it to the dump and pour it into the recycle container at the dump. So none was wasted. If you don't have access to the dump, and you remove it in small quantities, just put it in a container with a lid and pop it in the trash.
OK THE ANSWER DOSNET HAVE TO BE SO DIFFICULT... COOL THE OIL , POUR THRU A STRAINER INTO A TUPPERWARE, SEAL THE TUPPERWARE, PUT IT IN THE FRIDGE TILL NEXT TIME YOU NEED IT... NO BIG DEAL REALLY... YOU CAN KEEP REUSING IT!
TO DISPOSE, SAVE THE OLD COFFEE CAN OR BUTTER CONTAINER, FILL IT AND THROW THAT IN THE GARBAGE.....
You never use up all the vege oil from deep frying. Have you filtered it? Use a coffee filter and slowly pour the oil through it. This will remove any bits of food left in the fryer and the over cooked bits that come off and look tacky.
I leave the oil in my fryer and just put the lid on and push back til next time. I filter it once a month when I have people in that agree with deep frying lots of stuff.
I reuse it til it is really dark colored, then take it out to the barn and add it to the used motor oil out there!!! The men can deal with it.
