I got a sirloin steak last week and it came out marvelously!
fire up your broiler in your oven
salt and pepper both sides of your steak
get a skillet out, spray pam cooking spray generously
put the burner on high
sear each side of the steak until you see color
take the steak out of the skillet and place in a broiler pan or cookie sheet sprayed with pam
broil for 5-7 MINS per side depending on how you prefer it. Don't hesitate to take it out and cut a piece off to test the progress.
***I also made a yummy burgundy sauce/gravy.
In the same pan that you seared the steaks add chopped garlic and shallots and butter. Saute until soft. When soft add burgundy (red) wine. Simmer, add a few pinches of flour and mix with a fork until you reach the desired thickness.
I also served it with mashies and sauted asparagas in garlic and olive oil-ENJOY!
get the expensive new york strip steak and broil it.
Here's the perfect steak, promise.
Get a good cut of meat. I prefer a ribeye.
Season with Cavender's Greek seasoning. Put several fork punctures in the meat.
Heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a saute pan.
Put steak in pan, cook 2 minutes on each side.
Dribble some Worstechire sauce on steak and cook 2 more minutes on each side over medium heat. It should be medium rare. Keep turning every 2 minutes until it is done to taste.
I promise it's delicious. My family says I make the best steak ever.
You have to start with a good cut of steak. Rib Eye (the prime rib cut into steaks), T bone or Porterhouse. Then you can marinade it for 3 days. I was a meat cutter & this is how I do mine. Then I cook mine in the broiler, for 5 mins on both sides. But I put my broiler on 500, not the broiler setting. It sounds like you are over cooking it. Good luck.
***** A New York steak is a boneless T bone.
I marinate mine in Kraft Balsamic vignette salad dressing. Allow the steak to become room temperature. Place on preheated grill. Sear on both sides without turning (insure that the juice's stay in the steak) cook until desired taste. I like mine meduim rare so I turn once after searing. About 4 minutes on each side.
if you like it med. rare, try it in the broiler. That's how I used to do mine (im a veg head now) rub a little olive oil and some seasonings on it. Watch it closely it will cook in minutes
Hey...having a good cut of steak is pretty mandatory. But contrary to popular belief you should only turn the steak once. Otherwise the juices will run out of the steak and you will be left with dry and hard steak. Also when you are done cooking it to your liking, remember to let the steak "rest" after you cook it...this means to just let it sit for several minutes so that the juices don't come out when you cut it. Always cut the meat AGAINST the grain as well. If not, your steak will be all chewy and nasty.
I use a mini George foreman grill that cost about $13 and it works wonders! You only have to have it on for a few minutes for med rare steak. Someone else suggested that you cut off a part of it to see how done the steak is....I do that on occasion but if you keep doing that, again, the juices will be released and you will end up with a hard dry, juice-less steak. It's a trial and error thing. Using a good cut of meat does help a lot but you can cook just about anything and make it more tender than before if you follow all of the answers along with mine...good luck and happy eating!!!
