Why can i not buy brazil nuts in their shell?!

Question: i can buy them already shelled but not in their shells

Answers: i can buy them already shelled but not in their shells

EU rules stopped them being sold with their shells on, in the UK. It was because of the cancer link to a fungus.

WOW I never saw them without their shells! Anywhere that I find them they are in their shells and I hate trying to get those Shells off they are so hard to crack...Just ask or look around at local grocery stores..GOOD LUCK!

i had them in mixed nuts shelled. can never buy a cashew in the shell though

They are sold in shells in Tesco.

Really? I can buy them wholesale in their shells at a local market where I live.

I also let a few rot once. That is the worst smell on the planet. It is worse than sulfur, swamp gas, rotting human bodies, chickpeas, worse than anything I have ever encountered.

They usually sell them in the shells around the holidays ie.. Thanksgiving and Christmas.

keep looking ....where I live they sell them that way, although it is not so easy to crack the shells and get the nutmeat out whole ... so maybe it is just as a convenience that your local stores sell them that way ...

Wow, I've never seen them *not* in the shell! We have them as decoration in a nut bowl in our house.

You can buy them here in the shell for pretty cheap:

Go to a candy and nut house. They all have them

some larger grocers sell shedded brazil nuts. I buy them all the time.

Did you know that the "shells" that look like segments from an orange... are in fact inside shells. They actually grow high on trees, arranged just like segments inside an outer casing as hard as a coconut! You can get them out pretty easily when fresh, but you need a sledge hammer to get them out of that outer casing once dried.... so you should be thankful that you get them ready to eat!

You sure you cant get them? They look like a dark brown hard orange wedge. Check in the nut bins at your local store. This time of year they are available more.

They usually sell them in there shells this time of year in your supermarket.

I have never seen them shelled, except in a can of mixed nuts. Alot of stores sell loose mixed nuts still in shells, especially at this time of year.

This change occured a few years ago. I thought it was to do with a fungus or something...

But I pleased my ol' Mum two weeks ago when I bought some Brazils in their shells from Waitrose....get them soon they won;t be there by Xmas week!

I'm back and here is the link:

It was a cancer linked fungus!!!

you can buy them with shells on in a supermarket if not a street market where they sell fruit and vegs
