Slowcooker question!...turning up the heat...?!

Question: I'm doing a decent-sized chuck roast in my slowcooker, and it's been on "Low" for 3.5 hours. I don't want to eat four hours from NOW, so can I turn it up to "High" for a couple of hours more? A few hours? Will it bollox my roast?

High heat in a slow cooker isn't like high heat in the oven which might "bollox" your roast.

YES, turn it up and it will finish sooner. In the future, use low when you have all day (put it in before going to work or the night before you want something for breakfast) or to keep things warm after they cook. Use high heat when you want to cook in half a day. Your roast will be fine with the higher heat.

Good Luck!

The low heat and long time period is what makes the meat tender. Turning it up will not do this faster.

Leave It or it will burn up the roast

for tender meat you generally need 8-10 hours on low I would worryy turning it to high you would lose the tenderness and It may not even finish cooking.

You can turn it up higher. Most slow cooking recipes list a low temp time estimate and a high temp time estimate. I always do about 3 pounds of pot roast in the crockpot on high for about 3-4 hours. On low it takes double that.

you can turn it up but you might lose some of that fork tenderness. But if you need to eat you have two choices - turn up the heat to high or have something else to eat and let it finish on low. I always think these slow cook pot roasts taste better the second day.
