Cajun fried turkey problem?!


Question: MY TURKEY IS ALREADY BRINED AND SPICED........BUT MY FATHER IN LAW IS ALLERGIC TO PEANUTS, SO WE ARE GOING TO OVEN ROAST IT......WILL THE TURKEY BE OK TO DO IN THE OVEN INSTEAD OF THE FRYER, OR DO I HAVE TO GET A WHOLE 'NOTHER BIRD

It will be fine...think of it as already marinated.

Also you can buy regular deep fat oil instead of peanut oil....Only oils that have high smoke points should be used. Such oils include peanut (which you can't use), refined canola, corn oil and sunflower. Canola oil is low in saturated fats and would be appropriate to combine with peanut oil if fat and cholesterol are a concern.

Life is short. Here's my two cents:

Option 1:Why not compromise and deep fry as planned. However, you could just use a different form of cooking oil. I think that as long as the oil has the same "smoke point" as peanut oil, you can use it to fry the turkey. (Oils: Olive, canola, vegetable or Solids: Crisco shortening or lard. Maybe those are some options) Since a peanut allergy can be fatal it's good to rethink the process.

Option 2: Along with using option 1, you could also buy various parts of another turkey. You could roast a whole turkey breast and some legs separately. So, you can have the best of both worlds, fried (without any trace of peanut byproducts) and roasted.

Just one quick addendum to another answer...

Whatever you do, do NOT attempt to fry your turkey in olive oil!!!!!!

At the temperatures required for turkey frying, olive oil will not only smoke, it will IGNITE!!!!

As she's a personal chef, I'm sure its inclusion in the list of oils was just an inadvertent typo, but just in case you're about to run out to COSTCO and buy 10 gallons of olive oil to fry your turkey in, PLEASE, DON'T do it!!!!!!

(Canola oil or liquefied vegetable shortening really is your best bet, here....)

Put it in a bag and then 30 mins before its done brown with bag off.It will work out,why not fry in canola oil?It is oil.Peanut just makes it where you can fry more than one bird in a day.
