Can you freeze fresh mushroom? and do they stay nice?!
Answers: i have ten pounds of them .need to do something with them . any ideas ?
Actually the best way to preserve fresh mushrooms is to dehydrate them. If you don't have a dehydrator, you can achieve the same result using your oven. I use a lot of Shitake mushrooms, but only grow limited amount of months in my area.. if you dehydrate them, they will keep year round, and all you need to bring them back is to reconstitute them. You will see in grocery stores porcini mushrooms the same way. Easy to do, and delicious.
I'd love to be able to freeze fresh mushrooms, but we can't. They turn into mush when thawed.
When I have too many, I saute them in a little butter. If you do that, you can freeze them. First saute them, then spread separately on a cookie sheet and put in freezer for one hour. Remove from cookie sheet into freezer bag, then put back in freezer. Frozen mushrooms may be kept for up to a year. To use, simply warm up in microwave or skillet, or throw into a dish before cooking. Works well with almost any mushroom species!
I tried once but they were soggy and tasteless when I thawed them out,how about making some mushroom soup then freezing that,at least they won't be wasted.
They do not freeze well, they go wierd
We have never tried mushrooms but have found that if you invest in a vacuum sealer just about anything can be frozen and come out fine. We have frozen peppers and even spaghetti sauce with great results
