Is BUTTER supposed to be Room Temp or Cold to make CRUMBLE TOPPING?!
Answers: I have the recipe here in hand, but it doesn't say if the butter should be softened or not. THANKS!!!
cold, chopped into small chunks for easy handling.
COLD!
I make an apple crisp with a topping of butter, flour, oats & brown sugar and it make it with the butter real cold, and cut it into the other ingredients with a pastry cutter.
I think if it's too warm to begin with, when you mix it with the crumbs it'll be too pasty. Go cold.
Cold- that's how it is going to be crumbly
Warm- Gloppy Mess
