Is BUTTER supposed to be Room Temp or Cold to make CRUMBLE TOPPING?!

COLD!

I make an apple crisp with a topping of butter, flour, oats & brown sugar and it make it with the butter real cold, and cut it into the other ingredients with a pastry cutter.

I think if it's too warm to begin with, when you mix it with the crumbs it'll be too pasty. Go cold.

Cold- that's how it is going to be crumbly
Warm- Gloppy Mess
