a stick of butter is 1/4 of a pound. So 4 sticks is a pound. Usually those tubs of margarine are labeled by ounces--16 oz is a pound.

A box of butter is usually a pound. Just look on the package--it usually tells the weight. I love cooking by weight measure--it's so precise. I always use my scale. But you don't have to.

Well thats a one pound container of margarine....they usually come that way for this very reason.

A pound of flour could be 8 cups....

A pound of potatoes could be three cups....

this is really an impossible question, due to density.

If you intend baking often, get yourself a kitchen scale, it is invaluable to any cook. Most food bought over the counter has the weight marked on the package, but i'm aware that some countries still don't use the metric system, but in that event, use recipes printed in your own country & you'll be OK. Sorry this is the best I can suggest.
