How much is "one stick" of margarine?!

Question: This stuffing recipe calls for "one stick" of margarine, but I buy my margarine in one of those little tubs. How much should I use?

The previous answers for measurement are spot on, but I wanted to add that you can't substitute the margarine in a tub for stick margarine when baking things like cakes and cookies. The stuff in a tub has a much higher water content and baked goods using it as a substitue won't turn out right. For stuffing, it should be OK, though.

One stick of margarine (or stick butter) is generally 8 tablespoons. I'm not sure if you would measure margarine out of a tub the same way, though, because the margarine in the tub is much softer -- there may be a difference in the way that you have to measure it. My suggestion would be to spend the extra $1.50 or so and go get a box of stick margarine. Your recipe might turn out better that way.

one-half cup or 8 tablespoons.

Vicki is correct it is 8 Tbsp. But if you want great dressing use real butter not margarine.

a half a cup or 8 tablespoons:)

One stick is 8 tbs or half a cup. However, the margarine in the tub won't cook the same way as the stick margarine or butter will. Also, be sure it's saying a stick of margarine and not butter because sometimes that can mess your recipe up if you use the wrong thing. (Not every time, it depends on what you're making). Also, don't use light butter in a cookie recipe that calls for regular butter (I don't know about other recipes, but the cookie dough won't come out thick enough to roll up and bake...found this one out the hard way myself last Christmas!) Anyhow, you really should just go buy the stick butter/margarine (it can be store brand if you're making something with it, the taste won't be much different if at all). It's not very expensive and it's easy to measure - it's marked along the side so all you have to do is cut and unwrap! Good luck with your stuffing :)

thanks for asking this, I have an american recipe book at home and it totally confused me...does anyone have the actual weight I wonder?

1/2 cup

8 tablespoons which is about 200 grams

1/2 cup soft margarine = 1 stick I have did this so many times over the years and if the recipe calls for stick margarine, it won't hurt the recipe to substitute the soft. Just remember that when you buy stick margarine, there is 1 lb in each package. 1 stick = 1/2 cup... 2 sticks = 1 cup....3 sticks are 1-1/2 cups and 4 sticks would be 2 cups.

One stick=1/2 cup or 8 Tbsp. or 1/4 Lb.
Real butter is BETTER:)
