What is a good healthy meal to serve up for fussy kids?!
Answers: I have a 9, 7, 1 yr old and they haven't been brought up to eat lot's of veg especially since divorce. I don't cook alot but want to change that. THANX
Tyr some of these:
Breakfast:
pancakes with mashed banana in them and top with butter and light coating of cinnamon/sugar blend. Less sugar than syrup and there gettting fruit. You can add applesauce in the batter too.
French toast topped with peanut butter and apple slices, banana works with this too.
Buy cereal that is sweet, but healthy. Ex: Cinnamon Life, Toasted Honey Crunch, Quaker Honey Oh's, Honey Nut Cheerios.
Lunches: Pita Pizzas, they can build there own and have fun. Use wheat pitas, and whole milk shredded cheese.
Buy light wheat or honey wheat bread for sandwiches.
Buy pretzels and give them peanut butter to dip it in, instead of chips, or they have cheddar flavor veggie chips. Taste great and if they don't read the bag they will never know. (store in a ziplock)
Snacks:
Fruit bars and pop-tarts without the icing. Sliced apples, grapes and bananas make great snacks. Pop-corn without the butter and light salt is good. My son loves to snack on corn muffins and biscuits, Jiffy corn muffin mix is great and so is the Grands biscuits.
Dinner:
Pasta with grated parmesan cheese, butter and a little garlic powder. Sloppy joes are great with mashed potatoes instead of fries. Make your own "tenders" by rolling chicken cutlets in italian bread crumbs and baking them. Make your own fries by cutting potaotes in to chunks, par-boil them, drain the water and place on a baking sheet, sprinkle with your choice of seasonings and bake them till crispy.
My tip is to think of their favorite restaurant foods and figure out a way to make them at home.
Cheeseburgers: Buy a pack of dinner rolls, and then make little patties to cook. Top with cheese or whatever they like and you have mini burgers!! They will love them.
Fresh lobster
hide the veggies in stuff. Make scrambled eggs and have itty bitty teeny tiny pieces of broccoli throughout. stuff like that.
Order a pizza with a couple meats and a few veggies like onions green peppers and olives. Tomatoes are good too. Make sure you order from a higher quality pizza place or sles your just donna get greasy fattening food.
Try serving the two older ones raw veggies with dips. You can make a lot of good dips from yoghurt and herbs such as garlic, dill, chives, etc. You could also try hummus as a dip (buy it at the supermarket or else make your own, you can find a recipe online I'm sure). Kids love to dip things. Let them try bell peppers, carrots, cherry tomatoes, cukes, celery, etc. The littlest one is still young enough to learn to appreciate veggies. Steam things like broccoli, spinach, carrots etc, and cut them into small pieces and just present them as part of dinner.
How about some toasted cheese sandwiches. They are easy to fix and not expensive.
My kids love pasta and i hide veges in them . They are none the wiser.
Chicken noodle soup and let them decide what they what in it (vegetables only)
