I cook asparagus two ways. Either a cut it up into 3 inch pieces and sautee it in butter and garlic on the stove top for about 8-10 minutes.

Or - I drizzle some olive oil and salt on them and roast them in the oven at 400F for about 15-20 minutes.

boil it in a small amount of water with salt like for 10-15 minutes. cool it down immediately with ice water so it doesn't loose it's color

break the ends of the asparagous and either griddle it in a little olive oil or steam or boil for 3-5 mins and plunge into cold water to stop it cooking

You can steam it for 5-6 minutes and add salt, pepper, butter (in a microwave or in a pan)

Grill it (my favorite). First toss with olive oil and salt and pepper and grill the whole spears until they have intermittent char marks. This dish also is great at room temperature so is a good prepare ahead dish.

You can also roast it under high heat after tossing with olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic (or butter instead of olive oil).

Trim the stalks - a good way is to gently bend it - the "woody, non-edible part will break away. Discard that.

Boil or steam the asparagus for 4 to 6 minutes. Drain and serve with melted butter.

Wash them in cool water. Bend each spear and they'll break at a natural snapping point, which will remove the tough, woody ends. Then you can cook them any number of ways. Boil them in about an inch of water for about 5 minutes, then rinse immediately under cool water. Or roast them in the oven at a high temperature until they're tender. You can also steam them or pan cook them until tender. Asparagus is good tossed with some fresh lemon zest, olive oil, and fresh grated parmesan, or some simple salt and pepper.

Bring enough Salted water to a rolling boil and put the sparagus in for about 2 minutes. You can test for doneness and then remove from boiling water and put in a bowl with enough water and ice cubes to stop the cooking. Sparagus are better if you dont over cook them. You can make a light lemon sauce or just plain butter , salt and pepper, or olive oil instead. Enjoy!
