I put too much salt in my dish ...?!

Question: I made a minced beef stew and used too much salt, it's bearable but I'd like to omit a little of the salt I added, is it possible??

Martha Stewart said if you throw a piece of potato in your stew, it will absorb the salt flavor. and you take the potato out and chuck it, along with the extra salt. I dunno how that works, but Martha Stewart said so!

add more water to dilute. think how to dilute

Peel a raw potato and put it in there... it will soak up the excess salt.

Add some potato. They will soak up the salt and if they are not desired in the final dish you can pick them back out. Bye-Bye extra salt! Hello perfect minced beef stew!

there is no way to get the salt out once you have put it in. you will have to bulk it out.

Hi Kate, the answers about putting in a raw potato are correct. It absorbs the salt.

Add some water and let it cook off until it's the consistency you want. It will dilute the saltiness. Good luck with your recipe.

Adding more water and then reducing it to the right consistency won't reduce the amount of salt in the stew. Adding potato will - don't forget to dump the potato. If you must add salt to stuff like this it's best to measure it first or taste it just before serving and season at the table.

How can I put this so it is different from the others hmmm, potatos have the unique ability to absorb salt, so by adding a potato to the dish, and leaving it in for a while until you are ready to serve it, it will reduce the salty taste and make the dish bearable. -There! I do hope that I have succeeded - best of luck with future mincings.

i hate salt full stop , wont eat it with anything

if salt was nice , can you explain why people cringe and spit sea water back out when they get it in their mouth in the sea ???????????

surely if it was nice they would drink it

It is true that if you put a potato in with your dish it soaks up the salt but personally if its a stew your making i would cut up a potato into quarters and put them in your dish and leave them in so you will then have a side of potatoes, there is another thing you could try and that is adding some cream in to a pan with water and give it a good mix and add until required taste.
