18th Birthday ideas in Michigan?!

Question: My 18th birthday is coming up in less than 2 months and I'm trying to come up with some ideas for a birthday party. I'm in Michigan, so it's obviously going to be cold (no outdoor parties!), and my parents and possibly other family are going to be involved, so no alcohol or strippers or anything like that.

My guest list is going to be around 50 people, and it can't be extravagantly expensive, but I don't think I'll be able to fit those people in my house, nor do I really want to. I was thinking about possibly a theme party, but I don't have any idea on a theme.

Any other ideas? My budget would probably be a few hundred dollars at the least, but absolutely nothing near "My Super Sweet 16." Also, I'm in SE Michigan (around Detroit) so if anyone has any venues they could recommend, that'd be fantastic.

Thanks!

Have you seen the ad on TV for Joe Dumars'? The ad says that they host inexpensive parties--probably just pizza, salad and beverages. You can reserve a time for a group volley ball game, for example, as fun entertainment. Just an idea...

i was in the same predicament before i moved away from michigan, and i lived in the same general area...all i can say is that u could find a rec hall you could rent for a day, or a VFW hall, and rent it out for the day. thats what my dad did for his wedding was rent a VFW hall for the day...or you could always take them to a community center/YMCA...maybe the one in southgate, i know its pretty big..idk if its big enough tho....hope this helps!! as for theme, you could go for something tropical to counter the cold, like a hawiian, or a carribean party...and you can have tropical without havin adult themes, it can be family friendly!! or you could do a masquerade ball, like what my friend did for her sweet 16, or maybe something oriental!! im not sure what else to say, but i hope this helps!!

Why not try this instead -- put your money and energy towards throwing a party for one of your friends--someone you know well and would love to have as a closer or even best friend. The happiest birthdays are when you make it happy for someone else. If you throw a birthday party for yourself you will come across as desparate to have friends or as a lonely and insecure person. Make it less about you and you'll be a happier person.
