Why do you need to serve a three course meal? What's wrong with simple finger foods?

In the last year, I have planned 2 baby showers and a wedding shower. What I have found to be good ideas are...sandwiches (already made or buffet style), casseroles, chips, baked ham, spaghetti w/meatballs, grilled hamburgers/hot dogs, sub party trays, fried chicken (bone in or strips), pot salad, pasta salad, pies, cakes, mints, punch, soft drinks, bottled water, candies (both store bought and homemade), enchiladas, tacos, etc. Whatever you do, try to stay within a theme. If you freak out, order pizza. You get discounts with large orders and they have other things to go with as well. Keep in mind that it is a time to have fun and celebrate a new baby and mommy so don't let it overwhelm you! Have fun with it and it will come to you! Good luck!

I love recipezaar.com and you can search by theme if you want.

Some great things, I have a wonderful recipe for a hot chicken salad which would make a great main course. And how about several large salads of different varities, ie: Chicken ceaser, apple walnut spinach salad, asian style sald.

finger foods, grape jelly meat balls, 7 layer dip, from recipezaar a great shrimp mold (done w/ cream cheese), spinach / artichoke dip,

deserts, I have done a banana cake with cream cheese frosting that was a hit a a baby shower and I have also done baby bootie cakes that were a hit!!

Hi...it depends on the time of day....I just had my baby shower a few weeks ago...it was from 2-4:30 so we kept it fun and simple.....I did the menu and we had chopped salad....a beautiful cheese platter with grapes and strawberries on it....stuffed mushrooms..(which I made)..and about 5 different store brought hor'dourvers (everything does not have to be homemade...we got them from Costco and they were great).......we also had deviled eggs and some finger sandwiches my mother made....the dessert was the cake.....we had a sherbet punch.....and 4 different sodas.....we also served coffee both decaf and reg. when we had the cake....we played a lot of games.....people just kinda grazed during the party...it was a great time had by all....at the end we gave out these really cute decorated baby shaped cookies that we bagged indv. as favors......hope this helps .....Oh...almost forgot we had a chocolate fountain with pretzel rods....marshmallows..,.maraschino cherries ....strawberries...pineapple chunks....toasted coconut...and sprinkles.....only thing is we couldn't get the fountain to flow right....that sucked

Most showers don't focus too much on the food. We had lasagna, mostaccioli, and chicken strips at the last one I went to. That is definitely one of the easiest menus to mass produce, and you'll usually end up pleasing most people, especially if you're dealing with a large crowd. If you have fewer people attending, you might consider something a little bit fancier. Just remember, the focus is on the expectant mom and baby, so if you need to, you can always order pizza. I've been to showers where the hostess did that, and everything went well.

Another shower where the food went over well featured sandwiches, chips, salads, and your typical picnic foods. The most formal one I've been to served salmon.

The best themed one ever had baby back ribs, baby carrots, baby corn on the cob, some mix of mini vegetables like snow peas and carrots and corn, miniature biscuits, etc. They also gave out Baby Ruth candy bars as prizes for some of the games.

Appetizers run the gamut from quiche to beef and cream cheese rolls to crackers and cheese to vegetables and dip little pizza or taco rolls. Just pick something that complements your main course. If you're serving a lot of different main dishes, go with a variety of appetizers. If you're doing something small or informal, put out chips and veggies and dip and cookies.

Almost everyone seems to serve cake. You can get some really great cake ideas just through a search engine. You might also consider cookies, brownies, butter cake, or cheesecake. Good luck!

Lets be realistic you want it beautiful and people to talk about it later so remember you need a meat to start fried chicken roast what ever floats your boat, a veg of choice, rice, pasta salad i mean shrimp or something like that, potatoe salad, toss salad to start them with, cheese crackers and meat for finger foods also can be to start them with, baked ziti is a good one, just don't go over board. veg tray, fruit tray.... mac and cheese baked not box. i just blended real food with starters but this is just ideas. meatballs is good with Italian bread to serve them on. get with some friends and ask them what they would think and also think about what the mother to be would like with out asking her if she does not know.
