Question: There's no special occasion. I just wanted to try something new with my family.

Answers: There's no special occasion. I just wanted to try something new with my family.

start with the main dish and work your way around....

for example.

Let's say ham. then think what goes good with ham. on and on from there.

course 1

hors d' vours

course 2

salad

course3

cleanse the pallate small frozen mint or fruit dish

course 4

main course

course 5

dessert.

keep portions small, these can be allot of food. it is fun. most of the time I do inly 4 courses.

I try and start with a theme or key ingredients and search for recipes involving them.

Pick a theme for the food you would like to serve.
Appetizer
Soup
Salad
Main Course
Dessert
Make sure you have a long period of time because you want to leave a little time between each course. Also make each course a little smaller than you usually do because its an awful lot of food.

If you dont have an idea go to "Food Network" or epicurious.com they have alot of options for you to choose or to get started.

I agree, start with a theme, such as a country, Mexico for example.
appetizer: chips,salsa, guacamole
soup: tortilla soup
salad: Mexican chopped salad (pepitas and jicima, Mexican cheese and cucumbers, tomatoes on lettuce) with a lime vinaigrette
Main course: burritos or enchiladas, carne asado, etc
Sides: Spanish rice and refrieds
Desert: flan or tres leches cake
for every country there is a fun menu to put together!

baked lemon chicken
yams with a dash of sugar
collardgreens
cornbread
biscuits with gravy

you could choose a certain type of cuisine you want to use such as italian or chinese, or you can choose an ingredient and showcase that item in every course, like pears or pasta or honey. use your imagination and have fun!

First course- Pineapple or Grapefruit halfed with jelly on it
Second course- Salad with croutons, celery, blue cheese
Third course- Pasta with marinara sauce and fresh grated cheese
Fourth course- Lemon chicken
Fifth course- Coffee and Fruit tarts
