What exactly is a "shindig" and how's it different from a party?!

I believe it's the same thing, just a slang for party

More like a square dance or barn dance. Think about it if your partner was wearing work boots and got you in the shin...hence shindig.

An organized event. Often used for a party, something a bunch of people will be at, but it doesn't have to be a party. It's a slightly older term.

It's also used for non-party things, so perhaps it means more of a get together. LIke if you have to be at a convention, or an awards ceremony, but don't want to go, you could say, "well, I don't want to, but I have to go to this shindig".

Back in the 60's Bobby Sherman had a tv show called "Shindig" where he had musical guest performing their hit songs.
