Birthday on Christmas Day! That's tough on him - combined presents:) My birthday is Christmas Eve, so I know the problem!

Anyway, I found a couple of sites with some ideas that might be useful:

I quite like the idea of the pizza cake on this site - but it's real fruit. I know my 9 year old son wouldn't eat it! :

Good luck with it - and Happy Birthday to your son.

a buche de noel is a totally great xmas cake - rolled cake frosted to look like a log - it is quite the process, but fantastic. You can also order a pre-made one at Williams Sonoma

I HAVE SUCH A NICE LIGHT CHOCOLATE CAKE RECIPE. AND ITS A NEVER FAIL, IF YOU BEAT THE EGG WHITES TO PEAKS.
CHOCOLATE CAKE
8 EGGS
4 HEAPED TABLESPOONS FLOUR
4 HEAPED TABLESPOONS CORNFLOUR
4HEAPED TABLESPOONS CASTER SUGAR
2 LEVEL teaspoons BAKING POWDER
PINCH SALT
1TEASPOON VANILLA ESSENCE
3 HEAPED TABLESPOONS COCO POWDER
SEPARATE EGGS,PUT EGG WHITES IN LARGE BOW LE, AND BEAT WELL UNTILL PEAKS, WHEN THE WHITES ARE STIFF, ADD CASTER SUGAR SLOWLY, BEATING ALL THE TIME.
NOW SLOWLY FOLD IN YOLKS. THEN LASTLY ADD THE DRY INGREDIENTS, FOLD THIS IN. BAKE IN OVEN 180 FOR 12 MINUTES. WHEN COLD COVER WITH CHOCOLATE ICING AND COVER THE WHOLE CAKE WITH CHOCOLATE FLAKES.
VERY NICE AND LITE THIS CAKE.
ENJOY

What about a cookie cake. Make a batch of chocolate chip cookies and bake them as a bar cookie in a round pan. Decorate with buttercream icing.

Or, what about a cake made from decorated cupcakes, in the shape of something fun like spongebob or a giant M&M.

ice ceam cake would be good or try this pudding dessert!
