I have an 80's party on Saturday. Need outfit and food theme ideas.?!

Question: Not to make anyone feel out of their age, but I was either an egg, fetus or baby during the 80's and a group of friends are having an 80's themed party Saturday night. I need to find trendy but original 80's outfit ideas. I also have to bring an 80's themed dish. So please enlighten me on trends or ideas you may have, Thanks!

Ok...that's my time. I graduated in 1985.

Here is what I wore or got out the door without my mom seeing:

Jellies shoes (flats or heels)

Candies shoes, Bright clean white Nikes with the blue or red swoop, Reebok's

Nine West wooden wedge heeled shoes with ankle straps that cris-crossed and buckled (worn with straight legged jeans and the puffed long sleeved shirts with ruffled fronts)

Color block dresses

Sleeve-less cotton shirts

Leg warmers, torn sweatshirts and braided puffy bands worn around the forehead (Fame/Flashdance look)

Straight legged jeans with silky ruffled or lacy shirts (like "Julie" from Valley Girl)

Mini, "Scooter" or "Split" skirts - flaired or straight (jean or any other material)

Cotton knit separates in stripes and bright colors (boat neck shirts, ruffled mini skirts)

Sleeveless denim jackets and izod shirts underneath

Anything with the Izod alligator or Ralph Lauren Polo logos

Capri pants (the straight-legged kind that hit mid calf)

Wool plaid skirts, shorts and pants with penny loafers

Bold checks

Jordache, Calvin Klein, or Gloria Vanderbilt Jeans (ONLY if the logo is the same from the 80's and prominantely featured... it was a status symbol)

Printed or striped jeans (Bongo jean company)

Wooden handled purses with changeable covers

Pink and green worn together

Baggy neon sweaters with very thick belts

The smallest Gucci shoulder style purse with the long strap (blue or brown "G"'s)

The small wallet style coach purse with the long strap

Fair Isle sweaters, turtlenecks, knee socks and corduroy knee shorts

Forenza Pants with large pockets and snapped ankles (From "The Limited")

Forenza V-neck shaker sweaters (from the "Limited")

Long pastel or neon sweatshirts, black stir-up pants with flat shoes.

Tan Chinos/Khakis with Top Sider shoes (they were flat dark brown shoes with grommets on the sides that had leather laces woven through that came to the front and tied, with the trademark white flat soles)

The thrift store look was also poular, but I was never into that.

Some at my school were into the punk scene and had their heads shaved on one side and wore safety pins on every thing. Ripped jeans, punk t-shirts and leather jackets

Accesories:
Hair pulled up and over into a one-sided pony tail

Sheena Easton style short cut, feathered sharp cutting edge

Uneven "Bob" like the lead singer in Swing Out Sister.

"Cellophane" hair colors, especially red and golden

Chunky large plastic earrings and jewelry.

Lots of thin bracelets

Large metal hoop earrings

Again, anything neon

Large plastic hair clips, banana clips

1928 jewelry

Laurel Birch earrings (expensive dangle style cats with different colored enameled outlined in gold...another status symbol)

Add-a-bead necklaces (Cloissone and gold were popular with my group)

Thick belts

Lots of long chains

Lots and lots of band buttons on your demin jacket (they were roughly the size of a quarter and featured people like the Clash, U2, Stray Cats, Psychodelic Furs, The Go-Go's, anyone popular at the time

As far as food, I have no idea what "80's food" would be, but back then my group ate alot of Little Cesars crazy bread and pizza slices. Any type of "Mall food" may work. Too bad you can't find some new coke.

Ever seen Cyndi Lauper? Madonna (Like a Virgin days Breakfast Club? Sixteen Candles? Colored hair, thrift store shopping, all those were in vogue. And as for food? Maybe Hamburger Helper? Try the links below for outfit and food help. Good luck! Have a "totally awesome" time at the party!

Food... Cheeto's Cheese Balls! And SPAM canned meat! Also, Nestle Quik Powder form chocolate milk mix! If you can still find these foods! I ate them as a teenager!

Well, for the costume, something kind of tacky and full of color and wild patterns would work. Try checkers and stripes and stars, large black sunglasses, really curly hair, big earrings, and if you're daring, pull on the leg warmers.
As for the food, here's a great site:

jello pudding pops were a hit as far as i remember, and trail mix was all the craze :)
good luck!

angels/devils on horse back(Prunes/banana/prawn wrapped in bacon,secure with toothpick&grill/bbq.
Punch.
Scoth eggs,club sanwiches,crudits&dips
Fondue cheese&chocolate.
Trifle&on&on&on...
enjoy the party

choose food that has lots of colour, like your clothes

Big hair, big earrings, big chunky necklace, lots of bangle bracelets, skin tight leggings, leg warmers, big over sized sweater that comes down over the behind- and yes, it does have to have shoulder pads, or else a big open neck that dips down over one shoulder. As for food, Ben and Jerry's ice cream hit the supermarkets in the 80's, wine coolers and delivery pizza were and still are popular.
