Finger food to bring to a retirement party?!


Question: I am going to a retirement party tomorrow night and would like some ideas about what to bring as in finger foods. Are cookies ok? Or would something better like a veggie tray?

I would think at this time of season cookies are great. But a veggie tray is always a good standby. A fun finger food is fresh pineapple and cheddar cheese chunks on a skewer.

Finger sandwiches...
Make tuna salad, spread on bread top with other bread. Cut the crust off, cut criss cross to form small triangles.
Dip the cut edges in black poppy seeds or sesame seeds to decorate them.

If possible get a loaf of Caterers Sliced Bread. It is sliced length ways.
Spread with butter or margarine then lay your fillings across the bread. Removing the crusts will make them easier to roll. Cut roll in 3 or 4 pieces.
Rolls.
Take a slice of sandwich bread and spread it with butter or margarine.
With a corner of a square or rectangle of bread pointing toward you, place across bread corner to corner the filling and roll up.
Fillings to consider:
Shredded chicken with some S & P or mayo
Asparagus spears
Surimi, a few slim slices of lettuce and a seafood dressing.
Present with the open ends upper most so people will see the filling they want
Club Sandwiches
Take four slices of bread and spread them with butter or margarine.
On the first slice place ham and some mustard. (Optional)
Place the second slice of bread on top of Ham, and cover with mashed egg, seasoned with S&P.
Place the third slice of bread on top of egg, and cover with de seeded tomato, seasoned with S&P
Top with forth slice of bread, spread side down.
Cut crusts from the sides and cut into fingers.

If possible get a loaf of caterers sliced bread.
It is cut lengthways, instead of across, so you can make several at a time.

There will be tons of cookies. But make them if you want to! My mother had a really simple finger food. Take a cold brick of cream cheese and cut it in 3/4" cubes, and roll in crushed nuts. (She used walnuts, but almonds or pecans would work too.) Sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley if desired. You won't need many since they're very rich.

Candied walnuts or pecans are popular this time of year too if you have the time to bake them.

Something they can chew lol jk haha. Veggie tray is nice or deviled eggs?

You could bring a tray of grapes, strawberries, melon, etc..)and different types of cubed cheeses (put the fruit around the edge of the tray and the cubed cheese in the middle--makes a very pretty presentation, and is easy)...you could also add veggies to this type of tray (one half of the outside of the tray = veggies; the other half = fruit, with cheese in the middle). Nancy's mini quiche are really good...they are in the frozen food isle, and you just heat them in the oven for about 10 minutes (but they are still good cold). Finger sandwiches are also good...you could get some soft bread and use cookie cut outs for different shapes, or just cut off the crusts and quarter. You can mix mayo and mustard (or just get a jar of the "dijonaise") and use ham and turkey...really simple). As an "alternate" you could buy a package of those sandwich wraps (look like extra large tortillas), spread with mustard and mayo mix, and layer with different meats/cheeses and lettuce, roll and cut into 1 inch pieces. Avocado pulp, sprinkled with salt and spread on thick, crusty (or soft) pieces of bread is very simple and quick to do and it's really delicious.
And the bonus: it's got great nutritional value with lots of anti-oxidants.

This artichoke dip flies . . . and it is easy. Serve w. pita chips or crackers (plain) or sliced french bread:

1 can artichokes
1 Cup parmesan cheese
1 C mozarella cheese
1C mayonaise
paprika to spinkle on top - optional

Rinse artichokes well to remove salt and chop. Blend all ingredients together. Bke for 30 minutes at 350. Cover w. foil or a lid to transport.

Lately I've been doing deviled eggs because they're cheap and easy and everyone likes them. You can also do hummus with veggies and crackers. Anything you choose to do will be fine!

You got to love your grocery deli section. They have wonderful veggie and dip trays, cheese and meat trays, for us wish we had the time to cook folks...

How about those mini frozen quiche's? You can by these at the grocery store and all you have to do is heat them up, very tasty too.
