pizza

Elegant heavy appetizers. Estimate 3-4 apps per person per hour, and people will feel full without getting stuffed like they would at a sit-down meal. And apps allow for easy grazing.

One of my favs is to take a Medjool date and pull the pit out, replace the pit with an almond, and wrap with a piece of bacon, secure with a toothpick. Broil in the oven, turning once or twice, until the bacon is crisp. And don't let the date fool you! People will gobble these for hours, then ask you what it is, and when you tell them, they'll say "I never would have thought I'd eat a date..."

In addition to your heavy apps, serve a signature cocktail, something festive like a chocolate-orange martini or a cranberry-amaretto martini.

Crank up the Christmas tunes and you're all set.

3 horsd'vores that are addicting: 1. Take dates, pit them and insert a roasted almond. wrap in bacon and secure with a toothpick, bake until warm and broil until crispy.
2. Take whole water chestnuts, wrap in peppered bacon, secure with a toothpick, broil until crisp.
3. On a serving platter put a block of cream cheese (room temp), heavy sprinkle with coarse pepper. Pour Worcestershire sause over the top and surround with crackers and 3 inch celery pieces. (dip in, but no double dipping)
