I'm holding a mexican fiesta, but I ran out of enchilada sauce! Can I substitute molasses?!

Question: Yep, I do it all the time, and it is gooood.

Answers: Yep, I do it all the time, and it is gooood.

no

Maybe for your dessert enchiladas.

do you have fresh tomatos or canned tomato sauce?
If so, you can heat it on the stove and add spices to it ....its the closest thing I can think of..sorry and good luck

No, enchilada sauce isn't sweet it spicy. If you can't go buy more the you could use salsa.

If you have tomato paste, you can use that. Dilute it with some water, add chili powder, oregano, a pinch of sugar, a pinch of salt.

ICK! NO!!

That is truly disgusting. The above answers are good ideas (spiced tomato paste, salsa, etc.)

Have you ever eaten enchiladas yourself? Ask yourself does it taste like molasses? I think after you answer both of these questions you will get your answer.

Go to the store and get more. If you use molasses, you will not be able to serve them as they will be awful!!

2 Recipes for fast enchilada sauce:

1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon oregano

Stirring constantly, slowly add 3 cups water
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens.
Stir in 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce.
Cook until heated through.

#2 -- 15 mins prep
Take one jar Salsa (spiced to your choosing) - dump in pan.

Mix 1 Tablespoon flour and 1 teaspoon cocoa powder with 2 Tablespoons COLD water. Stir into salsa.

Cook over medium heat until bubbly. Stir and continue cooking for at least 3 minutes. Season to taste with garlic powder, salt and cummin.

Do you mean Mole sauce instead of molasses? Mole is good on enchiladas, molasses would be bad.

That sounds pretty gross. Go to the store and get some more enchilada sauce asap. Good luck!
