I'm having guests for Christmas dinner...?!

Question: Should I prepare food? Should I have dessert? Should I just not prepare any food? Should I tell people to bring $200 for gifts? Should I tell everyone they can't use the bathroom?

I'm still laughing at this one! I'm thinking that you should rent a port-a-potty for out front and charge folks at the door. Serve them KFC in the bucket with paper napkins and don't forget the sides of coleslaw and potatos. Make sure you have plenty of cheap red wine on hand to round out the evening. As for gifts? Regifting is always so classy and well-done, I'm sure that Aunt Martha won't remember the vintage Eiffel Tower clock she gave you last year!

Should you be hosting a party?

yes you should make the main dish and depending on how many people you are having come over have them bring a dish to pass. my advice to you is to have prime rib for the main dish. allow everyone to feel at home and not have any strict rules such as telling them not to use the bathroom, or that could be the last time they ever come over for anything.

Why hell no girl....Down south, we just tell everyone to bring a dish & their own booze......You fix the turkey & ham, then delegate all the sides......No money for gifts - that's just plain tacky & even us rednecks have our morals ya know......Yes, they can go to the bathroom, although most of the men will just go 'round the corner of the house while they are all outside watching football & showing off their new guns!!

As Larry would say - GRD!!!

yes, yes, no, no, yes and you might as well get everyone's attention and rip one while you're at it.

...food?
Yes, food is traditionally served when one has people over for dinner--I would suggest preparing the main dish yourself (roast beef or turkey or ham or...)

...dessert?
If you are going to either ask people to bring something or allow them to bring things when they offer, you probably will have someone who wants to bring dessert--let them

...not prepare any food?
You are hosting--to not prepare any food would be less than hospitable

...$200 for gifts?
Wow! Can I have your friends over for Christmas? Gifts are exactly that--GIFTS--they are not an expectation

...can't use the bathroom?
That would be a good way to keep the night from going too late, but, if you don't serve anything to eat or drink, it may not get everyone to leave as early as you want. What's the alternative?

Perhaps you shouldn't host this year--maybe go to a few gatherings and take notes before taking such a big step.

1 Take some deep breaths!

2 Buy lots of candles.

3) Make a simple meal that's easy and won't make you nervous. Pancakes and sausage and fruit? A simple soup in the crock pot?

4) make two pans of brownies for dessert

5 get one or two nice bottles of wine

6 on Christmas, turn off the lights, light the candles, serve your simple meal and really pay attention to your guests. Be glad to be with them and show it.

That's all you need!

I'm skipping to your last question. If I was told I couldn't use the bathroom I wouldn't come, neither would anyone I know and you better tell them in advance or they will leave. That being my answer you won't have any concern over the first 4 questions because you will not be having any guests for Christmas dinner.

Well now, you had your little joke. Chuckle!

for a Christmas dinner you need all the great foods like lasagna , rice, yams and ask people what their favorites are to see if there easy with making. Then for gifts just tell the people who are coming to the party what are their ages and what they like. And please don't tell them to bring 200 dollars for gifts or else you will definitely wont see them at the party and if your serving food at a party some are going to need to use the bathroom
