"Starving Artist" party tips?!

Question: I'm throwing a party for one of my friends who's just finished college and is trying to become an artist, and i need help with the starving artist theme, just general ideas for the party like decorations and what not. I also need "starving artist' recipes, like rice and beans and cheese, or huevos rancheros or curry vindaloo ( i got that from the musical, RENT).

For decoration... go to the Salvation Army and buy some really cheap, crappy framed artwork (like Dogs Playing Poker or the Naked Woman on Velvet) .... and set that all around like it's a gallery opening. Have everyone wear berets, and have some sketchbooks and easels setting around. Play French bistro music... recreate the feel of Montmartre (the artist community) in Paris.

Then for food, do things like mac 'n cheese, tuna & noodle casserole, goulash, chipped beeef on toast, creamed hamburger on mashed potatoes, Spam, cheese in a can, pork and beans, corned beef hash... you know the stuff you ate in college to survive.

Sounds like fun... what a cool idea!
