Christmas Dinner... what shoud I say?!

Question: I was invited by a friend to their Christmas dinner which I accepted. I was asked to bring something, so I said I will make my homemade Sweet Potatoe Rolls. This was fine and of course I spent the money on buying everything I needed to make the rolls. I received a call last night and she said for me not to bring the rolls because her sister does not like Sweet Potatoes. I said I had already bought the ingrediants to make the rolls. She said that she would prefer that I now make my Key Lime Pie. I am thinking of letting her know that I will make the rolls anyway since I had already bought all the ingrediants. Should I call her ahead of time to let her know that I am not bringing the pie or just show up with the rolls? What is the best way to handle this? She is just a friend only.

Hmm.....she may be a friend but she needs some etiquette. I assume there are other people besides her sister attending the dinner. Not good manners.
Anyway, I would be kind of offended and politely decline making the pie. Don't call ahead. Just make your great rolls, smile alot and hope that others join you in having the rolls.
She can buy a key lime pie.

Here is the dilemmia, if you make the rolls, they might just close the door on you. Just make the key lime pie, and make the sweet potatoe rolls for yourself.

call her and tell her maybe u can make both. it shouldnt be just about her sister. to bad if she doesn't like them!

Tell her you already made the rolls. Would you rather be stressed and have to make a whole 'nother thing and have your first dish go to waste, or would you rather deal with the stress of telling her the truth? :) If she gets mad then she's not really a friend, so don't worry, just tell her!

Well, that was kind of rude of her to do this, but I guess you know that already.
I would probably just make the rolls and eat them myself, because rolls freeze great. Then I would enjoy them as a treat for myself when I wanted one. Then I would make the pie. I am guessing she really just wanted a dessert because she needed a dessert and sis was just an excuse.

Why can't you just return the stuff you already bought. I know what she did was not very nice but if you want to keep the peace make the pie.

Just show up with the rolls ........... and tell her that you felt that others would enjoy the rolls and maybe at another time (2 or 3 years from now) you can make her sister a Key Lime Pie.

It was not kind of her to tell you to bring something else after she asked you specifically to make the rolls. And after you tell her you already brought the ingredients, she should have accepted what she originally asked for.

I would take both. Then when I got there I would say I went ahead and brought my rolls too because I already had all the ingredients and thought someone might like them.
