figs stuffed with some plain cream cheeze and a walnut on top, simple, easy and o sooooooooo yummie

Depends on your age. But, I would suggest something that is going to absorb the alcohol, carbs, cheese, processed meats ......you could fix a tray filled with small bread, deli meats, different kinds of cheeses, and let them make little sandwiches.

May I suggest this. Think about where you live. Think about the people you will spend your new years eve with. Think about the food you all like. Then go for it.

Make a pesto torte. Mix cream cheese together with parmesan cheese and black pepper. Line a small bowl with plastic wrap pat 2/3 rds of the cheese mixture into the bowl to form a cheese bowl & fill with basil pesto then chill & unmold and top with sundried tomato pesto. Serve with crackers or slice up a baquette and make little toasts. Spinach dip in a bread bowl with extra bread is always popular. Purchase cooked tail on shrimp and make or buy a cocktail sauce for an easy shrimp cocktail. Look up some recipes for a hot artichoke and/ or crab dip if you have access to an oven at the party.

Cheese and crackers, no cooking needed. What about a sub-sandwich that is cut into small portions.

For the New Year's Eve party, I always take a bottle of vodka because there is already a lot of wine there. Some of the folk don't like wine and vodka seems to becoming as popular. Beer is always there.

I have been making puff pastry cocktail sausage rolls for years and they are now expected to be there. I make them in 2 batches of 3 dozen and freeze them. Defrost them during the day of the party, easy to transport, pop them in the oven to warm up before serving...I also take dipping sauces, i.e. brown sauce, honey mustard, & ketchup, & BBQ sauce. Never have any leftovers. I was thinking of making more this year but I decided against it. No leftovers is good and there are a lot of other delicious party foods available. Easy to serve as you only need a napkin, a sausage roll and one free hand.

Have fun and make sure you have a designated driver or take a cab.

Take a couple of bottles of chilled champagne, or pinot grigio, or sauvignon blanc, even chardonay. Then for snacks, think about whether you want to really "make" something, or want something easy to take. Here are some of my favorites:

1. Hot Artichoke and Crab Dip with Blue Corn Tortilla Chips: 2 cans artichoke hearts, drained and chopped; 1 can diced green chili's; 1 cup crab meat; 1 T lemon juice; 1 Tsp hot sauce; 1 cup good mayonaise; 2 cups shredded parmesano reggiano. Mix the above and place in baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees until golden and bubbling. Serve with blue corn tortilla chips or your favorite crackers.
2. Prawn Platter with Cocktail Sauce: 2 lbs jumbo prawns on a platter lined with green leaf lettuce. Place a green or yellow hollowed out bell pepper in the center and fill with cocktail sauce. Serve with lemon slices/wedges for garnish.
3. Salami rollups: 1 lb. thin sliced peppered salami; 1 container chive and garlic cream cheese; 1 jar cornichons, drained; toothpicks. Spread slices of salami with cream cheese and roll around a cornichon. Secure with toothpicks.
4. Cheese platter: Brie, Spanish Manchenga, Dill Havarti, Irish Cheddar, and Cambozola arranged on a platter with crisp green globe grapes. Serve with artisan crackers or sliced baguettes.
5. Spinach Dip inside a bread bowl
6. Lil smokies en croute: 1 package lil smokies; 1 container pillsbury crescent rolls; your favorite mustards and barbecue sauce. Roll out each crescent dough and cut into quarters. Wrap each quarter around a smokie and place on cookie sheet. Bake until golden and puffed. Serve with mustard or sauces.
7. Brie En Croute: 1 large wheel brie; 1/2 cup caramel ice cream sauce; 1/2 cup chopped pecans; 1 large sheet puff pastry. Roll out pastry so that it is large enough to enrobe the wheel of brie. Set brie in the center and top with sauce and chopped pecans. Bring up sides of pastry to form a bundle and tie with butchers twine. Make decorative folds of leftover dough. Brush with egg wash (1 egg, 1/2 cup water) and bake at 375 degrees until puffed and golden. Serve at room temperature in wedges with artisan crackers/breads.
