Question: I have friends coming over for New Year's Eve so I need cheap party food ideas. I would like things that are easy and cheap as people will probably be here for a LONG time celebrating the New Year.

Chips and Rotel/velveeta dip
Cheese pizzas
Make a pot of chili or jambalaya
Mini ham and cheese sandwiches made with the small dinner rolls in aluminum pans
a variety of Veggies and ranch dip
a variety of chips, Cheez-its, other crackers and dips/cheese ball

One thing you can never go wrong with = lil smokeys! Those little cocktail weenies are great if you just pour a bottle of bar-b-que sauce over them and put 'em in a crock pot. And if you don't have a crock pot, the stove top works just as well. That's just my favorite cheap appetizer for a party.

pretzels with dip....sliced cheese with crackers...
small sausages or cocktail weinies

chips & dips. cheeses and crackers, salami. etc

Chips, pretzels, cut vegetables. All three of those items can be purchased for very little money. Make sure that you buy whole vegetables as those prepared party trays tend to be very expensive. Cut the vegetables into thin slices, but thick enough so that whatever dip you choose can stick to it. Try using carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, cherry tomatoes, zucchini and even green beans (be sure to blanch these in salted water for a few minutes to cook em)
Store bought biscuits/crescent/rolls are perfect for parties too. They're very adaptable and you can use them in an infinite number of ways. Here are a few ideas:
Pigs in a blanket - take a crescent roll (uncooked) cut in half so you get two triangles, put either 1/4 of a hot dog or a lil smokey (miniature smoked hot dogs) on one corner. Put whatever seasoning you want, if any, such as mustard onto it (just a little bit) then roll it up. Bake according to directions on package until golden brown
Cinnamon twists - take a bread stick dough, uncooked, and cut it in half lengthwise. Smear on a little softened, not melted, butter then sprinkle it with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar. Twist them a couple of times then place on baking sheet and bake accordingly. Be sure to watch carefully not to let them burn.
Smoked salmon and cucumber sandwiches - take a biscuit dough, uncooked, and cut it into quarters. Bake these in the oven according to package until golden brown. When cool enough to handle, cut in half so you have a top and a bottom. Place a little piece of smoked salmon (deli meat and even grilled vegetables work as a great substitute too) and a few thin slices of cucumber in between. You can even add some onion and tomato (customize it to your tastes) and put on some sour cream, mayonnaise, etc.
All of these things can be turned into very different, very unique finger foods using the exact same basic ingredients. Just have fun with it and try new things out. Who knows, you may even discover a great recipe to keep for years!

Ok this is going to sound disgusting, but I swear they are so delicious.

Make as many mini meatballs as you can (just mix together ground beef, salt, pepper, garlic powder, an herbs you have/want and some bread crumbs if you want to stretch them even further.) Now, in a crockpot (or large pot with a lid if you don't have a crockpot), pour in one bottle of regular barbeque sauce (we always use Kraft) and one jar of grape jelly. Let it simmer in the pot or crock pot for 4+ hours and they are sooooo delicious!

Trust me, the sweet of the grape jelly and the tangy spice of the bbq sauce is amazing together!

Cut veggies and dip are inexpensive and good for you. Popcorn is another one that is inexpensive and not that bad for you too.

Spinach dip with french bread cut into a size for dipping, tortilla chips and salsa (fresh or in a jar) chex mix, cheese ball and wheat thin crackers, any type of pasta like salad (macaroni, itialian, etc) it will fit your budget and keep your guests rumble free tummies :) for dessert, try a fruit salad or ambrosia, even some twinkies or candy bars cut into bite size pieces

Lil smokes in bar b q sauce, cube cheese, and ritz crackers.
olives, cream chesse and ham wraps, Doritos and salsa, chips in dip, Mini taqitoes (cut up the frozen long ones)

mild salsa mixed with sour cream.with scoop chips.

Crisps, chopped vegetables, mini sausages, chicken kebabs, fruit kebabs, bread rolls, pizza slices, chocolate cake, brownies, cheese.
