Poker theme party ideas
There are several opportunities theme the party goods and tailor the menu for party themes include poker.
Game: Texas hold-um
Food serving: steak seared on an indoor electric grill, blue corn chips with salsa, corral barbecue
Decoration: chili peppers table cloth
Theme: card decks with ocean motifs, under the sea party or antique style deck designs for parties that are set in the good old days of the 1950 or 1920's
Set up: Instead of using chips at an under sea poker game why not use sea shells
Depending on how much room you have around the table you're going to be playing at, can you set-up tv trays or small tables behind the playing table for everyone to keep their food and/or drinks on? It's not fun trying to play poker on a table with wet spots on the cover from a spilled drink...or grease spots from dip dripping off a chip, etc.
A group of us get together several times a year to play poker. Always on Super Bowl Sunday and always when either a game or race is on TV. Everyone brings one pot luck dish with enough to share with all & a 12 pack of their own beer. For the Super Bowl, I bring a great homemade chile; another guy makes drop-dead great New England clam chowder from scratch; another guy brings his famous vension & rice; another guy always brings swordfish steaks which we throw on the grill; and usually another brings his homemade fried chicken. The host springs for the chips & dips and maybe a side or two to go with the meats. We generally start around 1:00 in the afternoon and will play cards, eat, drink, tell a bunch of lies, maybe even nap, and even watch the game!
Other 'normal' Saturday night poker games might start around 7:00 and we some times do themes based on what we want to eat. If we decide on Italian we each will bring our own bottle of wine and then one guy brings a good pizza (no Pizza Hut or Dominio's allowed!), another a pasta with meatballs and/or sausage, one brings an salad and another some cannolis for dessert, etc.
