What's a good new years eve munchie?!
Answers: I always cook black eyed peas and cabbage on New Year's Day. This year I am also baking a ham. But if you want something for tonight, like appetizer style food, try making sandwich wraps. You can really do them up any way you like, but I use tomato basil tortillas, spread chive & onion cream chesse, turkey, chopped tomato & lettuce and roll them up and slice them into bite size portions. You can put a toothpick through each one if you like. Also, if you have a deep fryer or a deep pan for frying you can try what I call Bayou Broccoli Balls. Basically just steam broccoli, melt some cheddar cheese with some regular or evaporated milk (you want it to be thick), fry up some bacon crispy, and crumble it. Mix the 3 ingredients, cover, let cool in fridge. When ready to fry (make sure your veg oil is pre heated), Use a scooper to make balls and coat them very well in a mixture of flour and breadcrumbs, then fry only till slightly crispy. Black eyed pea salad or something with black eyed peas. They are good luck if eaten on new years eve and new years day.
I will say puppy chow. You take some crispy cereal and melt chocolate on it. Let it sit for a while. Then the fun begins. You can either go crazy or go small on the powdered sugar. And then u can put it in a container and serve it on New Years eve as a munchie! (is a good one with lots of guests)

We are having a chicken wing dip, rye boat dip, chips and dip, shrimp, pizza, chicken wings, and whatever else we can come up with. Happy New Year!
Everything taste good in a Ritz. Cheese, crackers, pepperoni, slices olives, other luncheon meats, pimento cheese spread.
Since everyone is thinking healthy for the new year...I would do a vegetable platter with a dip of 1/2 each,sour cream and mayonaise, dill weed, garlic powder and fresh ground pepper.
SWEET PARTY MIX
2 packages Bugles Original Flavor Snacks (or just use Chex)
1 package Fritos Brand Corn Chips
1 package Cheetos (puffs)
1 package mini pretzels (rods or twists)
3 blocks unsalted butter (or butter)
1 1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
Mix the Bugles?, Fritos?, Cheetos? and mini pretzels together. Set aside.
In a heavy-bottomed pan on low heat, melt butter. Add in sugar, garlic powder and Worcestershire sauce. Stir until smooth and well combined (should be the consistency of syrup).
Remove from heat and pour over dry ingredients until well coated. Bake for one hour at 250°F, mixing every 15 minutes. Allow to cool and store in air-tight containers.
**NOTE** this makes a LOT of party mix, I like to make it in 2 pans, or you can cut everything in half.
Optional ingredients which may be added:
Honeycomb? cereal or Cheerios?1 box Wheat Thins
1 box Cheezits Crackers
6 oz. blanched almonds
1 lb. salted peanuts (not Spanish)
8 oz. cashews
Furikake (sea weed) can also be sprinkled on top, or add some soy sauce to the butter mixture.
SOUTHERN BLACK-EYED PEAS AND
"HOPPIN-JOHN"
1 1/2 c. black-eyed peas, dried
2 c. water
1 onion, med. size, chopped
1 ham hock (or ham bone)
Salt and pepper to taste
1 bunch parsley
Place peas, water, onion and ham bone in a pot. Cover and simmer for 2-3 hours. Add seasoning.
Variation #1: Heat several tablespoons of olive oil in pot first, saute onions and 1 cup chopped parsley. Proceed as above.
Variation #2: "Hoppin-John" is prepared in this way: Combine any leftover black-eyed peas (recipe above) with cooked white rice and scraps of cooked meat leftover from any other meal, in equal proportions. Serve hot.
CURRIED CABBAGE
1 large cabbage
1 white onion chopped finely
1 medium sized potato, diced small
1 teaspoon curry powder
1/2 teaspoon turmeric (for colour)
pinch of salt
pinch of pepper
1 tablespoon sunflower oil
70ml water
Use a medium sized saucepan and put the tablespoon of oil in to heat up.
Shred cabbage and place in saucepan with the 70ml of water.
Add the salt, pepper, onion and potato.
Make sure that the cabbage begins to soften first before adding the curry powder and turmeric, stir in and make sure all the cabbage is covered in curry powder.
Once you see the cabbage start to cook, turn the heat down a bit and place lid on pot to steam the cabbage, stirring occasionally.
Top water up as necessary to cook cabbage, potatoes and onion.
