Was your prom in the 80's??!

Question: I'm throwing an 80's prom party for my birthday this year and I need some great ideas. We'll obviously have 80's music and everyone will dress in 80's prom dresses and tuxes. I need other ideas though! I was thinking of serving the punch "spiked" and maybe decorating one of the walls with a TWISTER game. Any other ideas? What was your 80's prom like?

For some reason turquoise and hot pink stand out in my mind from those days. At one time or another all the girls owned a shiny metallic color dresses with the poofy layers around the skirt and the guys had to look like Miami Vice. You should also decorate the walls with posters from that time, such as Wham!, Duran Duran, Michael & Janet Jackson, Culture Club, etc. Maybe you could go to a thrift store and find old LP's to lay around the room. Don't forget movie posters Breakfast Club, St. Elmo's Fire, Robocop.lol
Play games such as "name that tune" or "name that T.V. show" by giving hints of each. Knight Rider, Dallas, The Cosby show. Have fun with it, it's sounds like such a "totally rad" idea!
One more thing, don't forget to leave cans of Aqua Net in the bathroom..lol

Yup, in 1983. Baby blue dresses and baby blue tuxedos as far as the eye could see! LOL

It seems to me just about every prom in the 80's had a "Stairway to Heaven" theme.

Twister??? No way... Prom was in '83

I wore a baby blue spaghetti strap dress with a handkerchief (asymetrical) hemline. BF wore a white tux with white shirt and blue cumberbun. I was a punk, so I had blue streaks in my hair and piercings all up my right ear. hahaha

BIG hair was in (permed and teased!!!)
Boys had mullets, or punk hair (long hair wasn't in at all) or they blowed it dry with a poof on top

Decorations were all done with streamers and balloons. I don't get the Twister reference. that was old school even then...

Glitter was big...
Airbands were big....

The biggest difference was really the music...

WHAM
Oingo Boingo
Adam Ant
Michael Jackson
B52s/Rock Lobster
Stuff like that....

The key makeout song was Stairway to Heaven

This sounds like fun. Am I invited????

My prom was in 84--I wore a HUGE, irridescent purple taffeta ballgown with flutter sleeves, my date wore a (and I can't believe I made him do this) lavender dinner jacket. Horrible, I know. The highlight of the evening was when the captain of the football team who had rented a room in the hotel where we had prom opened the door NAKED, and then puked on whoever was standing there--I think it was someone from room service.

We didn't play Twister in the 80's... that was more like the 50's.

Have 80's movies playing "St. Elmo's Fire" or "The Breakfast Club."
