How can I throw a party for 30 ppl on a budget? It's a 50th b-day party for my mom. Thanks?!
taco/nacho bar- make ground beef and maybe shredded chicken for the meats, put them in a slowcooker to keep warm, have all the fixins to go with it like lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, black olives, jalepinos, taco sauce- make some batches of refried beans and mexican rice on the side
or you can make sloppy joes, shredded beef or shredded turkey with buns, potato salad, baked beans, veggie tray, deviled eggs-stuff like that
if having a lot of drinkers I'd suggest either getting a 1/4 barrel or just get canned beer, maybe a few bottles or those boxes of wine, maybe a inexpensive bottle of Vodka and some orange and cranberry juices
make a fun punch, this one is very refreshing- one container frozen orange juice concentrate, one jug mixed juice like pineapple/banana/orange, and one 2 liter Ginger Ale- make a ice ring from a jello mold to float on top
I do my shopping at Aldi for party foods- it's much more cost effective for the same products- I get double the ammount of food for what I'd pay regularly at the grocery store.
get all your decorations from the dollar store, when I had my mom's surprise 60th we did the colors in pink, purple and white- I didn't want to do the Over The Hill crap-we wanted to more elegant. I got some balloon arangements made, hung streamers everywhere, we had it at a restaurnat and on all the tables we laid fake rose petals down the center of the tables with pretty candles in the middle a small vase of a single stem of lillies (very pretty and fragrant!), and at each place setting I gave the guests a small candle in a tin as a party favor. (you can do this on your main table or cake and present tables) all stuff found at the dollar store!
we also made a picture board of photos of my mom throughout the years- she had a lot of fun looking at it and showing them all off to everyone. I had also got her a book from Ebay on the year she was born, pretty interesting to look through!
Hope I helped- Have fun!!!!

Well. First off. Start saving money now, when is the party? Then work with what you have. Are you having the party at home, or taking them all to a restaurant. If it is a restaurant you can enlist their help when you call them, you can tell them what you can afford, and what they suggest.
If it is at home, you can easily get it catered and work with the caterer by telling him how much you can afford. Or you can do the cooking yourself and make it an appetizer/dessert party. Some of the food you might want to make will already be in your own pantry.
Party stuff can be bought at the dollar store, as well as little favors like candles, and such. There are tons of things you can do without going over the top.
Have a Buffett style party...buy all paper products at the Dollar store...Make REAL food...not finger foods...Get Fried Chicken, Pot. Salad, etc...Cant go wrong with fried Chicken.
Do you have to cook? That's alot of work. There are so many places that cater somewhat cheap.Like I think if you have her party around lunch time, people tend to eat less and won't be expecting a huge feast.I think Subway offers a variety of 6inch subs with their catering.Think about it.It will save you alot of work and you will have more time to focus on decorations and seating arrangements.
