What do you think of this menu?!

Question: I have five girl friends coming over (used to go to high school and occasionally get together) We're in our early 20s if that helps. It's their first time coming over (my first house), usually we meet at a restaurant.

I'm 7 months pregnant but it's not hard for me to cook because I like it.
One of them suggested they each bring a dish if it's too much trouble for me. I didn't say no but plans aren't finalized. A while ago I jokingly asked one girl what she wants me to feed her and she said she likes pasta.

I would prefer if they can eat this around the coffee table on a couch (kitchene is small) but I will seat them if I have to.

***Is this too much, too little or just right?***
*****Any suggestions or improvements?*****

Vegetable platter with dip OR caesar salad??
Chicken wings (seasoned, baked)
Potatoes - twice baked OR mashed ??
Mushroom fettuccine alfredo

for dessert:
Cream horns with fruit and chocolate
Cinnamon coffee cake
Coffee and/or tea

You can have a fettucini bar....have fresh sauteed vegies, ie: mushrooms, red and green peppers, brocolli, chicken breasts or tenders that have been cut into thin strips, several grated cheeses or just good old parm. At any rate have all cut in bite size pieces to make it easy to have a walking buffet. Serve a white alfredo sauce and a marinara sauce. You can purchase sauces or make your own if you are ambitious and have time. I do this for weddings and showers and people love to be creative with all the ingredients.

I would serve a simple romaine salad with croutons, Cesaer (sp?) dressing and a dessert. A tiramisu might be nice if you want all Italian, Coffee and tea or good red wine for those who may drink.

just a little to much, just take a few things off and u should be set :)

Twice baked or mashed potatoes sounds tasty to me. If you are having JUST chicken for meat I think you should have Shrimp fettuccine alfredo ..... Dessert sounds good. Can I come?

sounds great to me. when did you say i was supposed to be there to eat? lol

tea and COFFEE cake don't go together.

caesar salad sounds great.

twiced baked potatoes are better than mashed potatoes, but i don't think that you want to eat potatoes and a heavy cream sauce over pasta in the same meal.

the chicken wings sound delicious, but i don't really know if that much food is necessary unless you're planning on making this meal last several hours.

veg and dips are good for a pre dinner appetizer
chicken wings are fine for a starter
pasta for a main
any 1 of those 2 ideas for dessert

personally I'd cut out the potatoes totally. It's too much and you don't need a starchy starter (potato) and also a starchy main (pasta)

good luck, have fun

This sounds delightful! Put the veg tray somewhere that people can get to without having to sit, like an end table that you can walk past. I would go with either the pasta or the potato dish, but that is quite a bit of prep for both. I would serve a simple fresh fruit salad or a green salad, and only one desert. Your friends are coming to see you, not to stress you out, so relax, have fun, keep it simple.

Oh I love to cook and have friends over, im in my 30's and been doing it for a while..heres my suggestions

Definately cut out the potatoes-mashed or twice baked, doesnt go w/ the pasta dish-and is too much starch. The mushroom fett alfredo sounds great, and Caesar salad would be delicious with that-I would do garlic bread or breadsticks w/ the meal too. This will be your main course, chicken wings would be good to set out before hand while your preparing the dinner-but since everything else is Italian style, maybe think about bruchetta bread topped with a mixture of fresh diced roma tomatoes, snipped fresh basil and olive oil-yum....or what about fried raviolis with marinara dipping sauce? If your really sticking to Italian all the way around too, what about tiramasu for dessert? Or Canoli ..much like a cream horn, but more Italiano!
If you dont have recipes for any of these, go to www.copykat.com you can get GREAT recipes here that are from many restaurant chains..even Olive Garden. Good luck and hope this helps--sounds fun. You are on the right track!

The seating arrangement you proposed seems to fit better with finger foods, so I would do the mashed potatoes because they can easily be eaten with only one hand free. Skip the fettucine -- you don't need a second starch, and it could be messy if everyone isn't sitting at a dining table. Also, pick one dessert.

I went through something similar last year when I bought my condo. I spent tons of money and time on food that didn't get eaten at my housewarming party. The one thing I learned is not to have too many choices because stuff goes to waste.

Drop the wings since you are going with italian theme, also the potato is all wrong,
cheaper and easier shrimp cocktail, garlic bread maybe brushetta.
Now if you are going for more of a cocktail party style then veggie tray, wings, some sort of dip, pizza bagels you know finger food
OH, your desserts sound great

caesar salad
chicken
potatoes twice maked
and alfredo
and desert seams great
its just right

I think you could leave the potatoes out if you are serving pasta, you don't need 2 starches. Otherwise sounds good to me. I would serve the veggie platter and the wings as apps and the caesar salad right before the main course and maybe only 1 dessert...
