sports theme would be a great idea! I don't know what you'd really do for an Arbian Nights party?
keep the decorations the colors of the favorite team- streamers, balloon arrangements- whatever you find that matches the theme
heres a link to some supplies- just choose the sport you're gearing the party towards http://www.orientaltrading.com/applicati...
make some tablecloths to look like the field of the sport you choose, basketball court, football field. make or borrow some goals/goal posts. get some props like pom pons for cheering, foam fingers that say Happy Birthday. you can send out the invites to look like sporting event tickets, make sure to put on there for guets to wear their favorite team clothing.
for games say your theme is football- you can have the guests compete by playing tabletop football, or get one of those DVD trivia games- give out little trophies as party favors to the winners.
food- keep it the traditional guy sports type stuff- burgers, brats, chicken wings, meat balls, hot dogs, potato salad, chips, pretzels- that kind of thing.
have beer on tap, see if you can get some paper/plastic cups that they use in the stadiums. record a game or find one on cable that you can watch during the party- maybe a tape of a old game when his favorite team won the superbowl or something? try to get a few TVs in the same room so you can have a variety of sporting events going like they do in the sports bars. you can dress up like a cheer leader or ref and be the waitress for the night! get one of those waitress trays to carry around all night- blow a whistle when giving out shots to guests! make it fun!

He was born in 1978 - the height of the disco era - How about Saturday Night Fever. Or - Pink Floyd the wall. Think 'That 70's Show'????

last october, my brother-in-law turned 30. we did a 'cowboy' theme party. it was really funny, he had wheelbarrels filled with ice and beer. haha i hope this helped !

Mexican theme parties are so fun. The food can be pretty basic and last for hours- chips, salsa, (guacamole however- DOES NOT LAST-ew) but quesadillas etc are fine to sit out for an hour or two... lots of party stores have pinatas that you can fill with nto just candy - but other things to be creative.. my friends 25th we did nips and condoms... and it got a lot of laughs when the pinata broke. Margaritas, mojitos & coronas or sangria.. you can even make non alcoholic sangria.
Hawaiian theme is also a pretty good time.

Well for my 30th I went with a Hippie 60′s theme... So much fun..!!!
The music was classic 60′s, the decor was lava lamps, peace signs and candles all around..
Also it was a costume party.. really fun to see Wat people will wear... I wore an Afro....
Other themes could be:
The 80′s
Cave men party
Future style party
All sports theme party

Have fun...!!!!

It depend on if he is an older 30, or a young 30!

For my boyfriend's 30th, I rented the VIP area in this hip Latin place called "Remy Lounge" in NYC. We bought 2 bottles of liquor, and I decorated it with Superman ballons and decorations.

There was even a Superman "Best Friend" pin i gave to his brother.
