Smart baking knowledge!!?!

Question: for my first dates, i usually like to bake cookies or muffins or something simple with the girl because its more casual and less obligatory to have something to say all the time than lets say a dinner where you are sitting accross from each other and have to talk all the time.

ANYWAYS does anyone know some awesome baking trivia that i could maybe throw into the conversation to make me sound more informed and smart? Something like "we add beated egg whites for texture" or "the banana makes it watery so thats why we cut it with salt"

Your "awesome" trivia is terrible. Beated? Bananas make stuff watery? Where do you get this garbage info from? I'd keep quiet if I were you, she might know more than you do and you'll end up looking like an ***! Now, if you said something like "a little grated orange rind really makes these date muffins zing" or a hint of almond in these cookies gives them a wonderful flavour", she might be impressed. Good luck at any rate.

If you use room temperature eggs the cakes/muffins turn out lighter and fluffier than if you use chilled eggs.

Get Alton Brown's book "I'm just here for the food". He talks about why things work in food, its actually really interesting if you like to know facts about food.

Good luck, and what a cute idea for a first date!

TIP: When you really want to make a good impression, let the other person talk about herself or himself.

Ask Qs which interest her or him.

As far as a cooking tip is concerned:
It's better to store onions and potatoes on the shelf at room temperature, instead of putting them the refrigerator.

Here's another:
Contrary to popular belief, coffee is better after its been sitting a while - or even overnight.

Thanks for asking your Q! I enjoyed answering it!
