How do you plan a masquerade ball?!

Question: This is a surprise party for my best friend who will be turning 18. We want to capture the essence of a venetian/european masquerade ball but want to be able to keep it under a budget that high school seniors can afford. we plan to make it a semiformal/formal party, but don't really know what to do from there. does anyone know any sites that sells cheap masks where we can refer guests to? please give us as much advice as possible, we really need help! thank you

Well orientaltrading.com has blank masks and decorated mardigras masks that are really inexpensive..
But if you are making invitations you can give away the blank masks as part of the invites and with instructions to each guest to decorate them.. and have a prize at the party for the best one...
and everyone can decorate according to the clothes they are wearing... or maybe if you have a color scheme in mind, like a theme they can go with that...

Good luck!!!

You can make the masks yourself with paper mache. I remember seeing it done at a workshop during an Italian culture festival. Otherwise, try a costume shop. I bought one before going to a renaissance themed BBQ a few years ago. I think it cost 20 bucks.

Check out New Orleans websites - Mardi Gras is Feb 5 so there are lots of masks and party ideas this time of year.

Sounds like fun - good luck.
