iam having favors/soviners its a shot glass with my picture on it and my name and date. good idea. and what other ideas should i have where having appetizer and people will probuly dress up. should it be just all girls or guys also? whats your other ideas that iam leaving out or forgetting thanks and where doing karoke etc

A classic cocktail party has cocktails and appetizers, it is a slightly casual, classy affair. People having a cocktail and chatting with each other, and in the background some jazz or lounge... ...don't go too crazy with your cocktail offerings, pick a signature cocktail that is your favourite (after-all, it's YOUR party), and then have one to three additional options, and some non-alcoholic options, like sparkling apple cider or bubbly mineral water.
I don't know about the shot glasses with your picture - seems a little over-board - I'd do something that says "you're my friend, let's remember this night..." It will be cheaper, too. Perhaps have a nice invitation printed up, buy some of those sticker you glue photos into albums with, and ask everyone to please bring their invitation - using a polaroid, and after a cocktail or two, take a fun picture with each one of your guests and put it in the invitation for the guest to take home with the tabs, it's more personal and doesn't make you seem like a casino giving out promos... ...also try to keep it friendly and airy - set the tone with placing appetizers all over, but the bar in one place, and don't turn it into a boo-hoo kegger. :) That's my suggestion.
I think for your party you should have guys and girls over. Invite couples to it. You should hire a DJ, it may sound elementary but I recently did it for my 35th and it was a ball. We had many different drinks. We actually called a local nightclub and asked what drinks they served and just bought a lot of the drinks they listed to us. Cocktail parties are meant to be fun and relaxing, but luxurious at the same time. Hell, I did a few shots of straight vodka! Well I wish you luck with your party. Happy early birthday!

How high on the Rude Scale does a person rank who gives a birthday party FOR themselves and how high on the Vanity Scale does a person score for giving out "suviners" (see Check Spelling = souvenirs) with their face on it at the party? If your name happens to be Donald Trump a lack of manners seems to be more acceptable ..
