What can I serve for a birthday party where people will meet for the first time?!

Question: I recently got married, and some of our family members have not met yet. (We flew to Vegas for the big day) I would like to invite everyone, his side and mine, to my daughters 4th birthday party so everyone can meet at once. There will be no other children except her 6 year old sister. What can I serve that will be easy, yet filling? The party isn't until May, and I will be approximately 7 months pregnant at that time. I am obviously wanting to make this special, not only for my daughter, but for our extended family as well. HELP!!!

Congratulations on your wedding and upcoming child! May is usually a time of year that can be unpredictable, but is normally warm. If you are having the get together at your home and you have a nice backyard, then perhaps you can consider having a barbecue. Have a good friend that's a whiz at the "cue" do the honors for you. Plan on the old standbys of marinated chicken, ribs or briskit or ribeye steaks, hamburgers and even gourmet sausages and hot dogs. Plan on several salads, including red potato salad, macaroni, and green salads. Include a vege platter with ranch dressing and a fresh fruit platter with a marshmallow cream dipping sauce. Serve your meal with artisan rolls, sweet butter, and condiments as needed. For dessert, have a small dessert buffet and consider a chocolate fountain. Your daughters will enjoy the chicken and beef, as well as some of the macaroni salad and bread. To drink, plan on a nice non-alcoholic punch with a decorative ice ring and red and white wines. Have plenty of sodas and bottled water on hand.

If the weather is bad, or you're not wanting to barbecue, then modify your menu by including barbecue from your favorite ribs joint.

Good luck!

Maybe have it catered with a wide variety of dishes. Lots of people are vegetarians these days. I also find lasagna (one meat, one veggie) is popular and ideal for a large group. Don't forget birthday cake.

Rachel ray has some cook books that are 30 minute deals.

i am sure any food that can be baked and served will work, and if none of those work have it catered.

Drinks and lots of em.... but not for u of course lol. but for food it depends on how many ppl would be there. if a big casserole would be enough i would do that. can u make good lasagna?

Well, too bad you can't do a potluck (or can you?). You can get it catered, it doesn't have to be expensive, you can get your local Mexican restaurant or Panda Express to do it and it probably won't break the bank. If you can't afford that and want to make something yourself I suggest pasta. Quick and easy to make, and you can even buy the sauce (again, you might try a few italian joints i/o your grocery store). Then make a nice big salad, just some greens and romaine with some onions, tomatoes and cro?tons thrown in. A couple pizzas will round it out and make the kids happy. Also Subway can get you a six foot sandwich for pretty cheap. For dessert obviously cake, and get a CostCo tub of Ice Cream. Hope your daughter has a great birthday and the family gets along =)

homemade pizza kid s love that and dont forget the cake and party hats no clowns clowns are scarrrryyyy

Pasta is great. Coming from a traditional Italian family we make that a lot... with fresh sauce too. You can find a good meat sauce somewhere. Make some meatballs, you can also find a recipe for that too. throw in some fat (not hot but sweet) Italian sausage and let the sauce cook. Make the pasta and make some garlic bread... Put butter, garlic and oil on loaves of Italian bread and stick them in the oven. It's a really great meal. Also for starters you can make melon balls. Get a small baller and make balls out of melons. Your daughters would love to help with that, i always liked doing that with my mom.. also a GREAT starter is this sausage cheese roll...
Take those crescent rolls that come in that can that you bake and open them up.. spread out the separate pieces of dough and put a small slice of Pepper Jack Cheese and a small piece of the ready cooked Jimmy Dean sausages in them.. roll them up like a crescent and cook. We made these for a casino night at Lodge and they were the first things to go!

Need any other ideas email me.. i come from an Italian family so i have ALOT of recipes!

Have a BBQ....you could do it at your house or at a local park... just serve regular BBQ stuff like hotdogs and burgers with potatoe salad and fun summer stuff. This would allow the family to mingle at their leisure..Plus who doesnt love a BBQ!

It depends on how many people you are having. It you're having 20 people it's a lot easier than 60. So "easy" depends.
