You can do a lot of things to help raise money ... but be careful some require you to have permits.

You can do a bake sale, you can do like an enchillada dinner (where you pack it go and customers come and buy the plates) or the dinner party.

With something like this you want to get the word out as much as you can ... go to the media stuff like that. If you can get people involved (because it is a good cause) you will start getting donations, either cash or products to help with the party. You want to make flyers and just hit the streets. Spread the word as much as you can.

Other thing to consider is that you will need to rent space, such as a restaurant or something. Consider the costs and what you will be serving. You need to make it worthwhile for these people to go. Are you trying to bring awareness about something other than just her medical problems?

Because it was a drunk driver that hit her I recommend you get in touch with MADD (mother's against drunk drivers) and I am willing to bet they can help you TONS!!

I have an idea of an outside hot soup pot on a cold winter day.If you choose a nice park and are alowed by ordinance to do so. Like kids in a summer with ice tea??
make sure there are several friends of yours helping to draw attention to the cause/reason.
Important thing is also to mention how the accident happened. You can call the TV station, also go to the bank and open an account for your friends' medical bill coverage, set up a website with included info where to send the money, to what account for what purpose.
You know, it doesn't metter how much money you get from donation at first. That good cause is what's important, and your friend must be very lucky to have such friend like you.
That soup pot make really simple - make a hearty chicken soup, and people will be happy.
After that the fliers given out can make you get people for a dinner and more donations.

you should get a bunch of friends together to help you plan the event so your not stressing on what to do,

they should all be assigned something, like someone should make the flyers and everyone should spread the word by mouth.. and someone should be in charge of cooking, then someone in charge of decorating. get my drift? :)

or maybe you get a caterer and host in it someones backyard with a tent thing? the big white one's ya know?

:D hope this helped.

Check with a church or a fraternal organization like Lions and see if you could use their building. They may even help you.
Spaghetti and salad always goes over good.
Advertise it well.

in our area pancake breakfasts, spaghetti feeds and the like work well. cost effective and filling and not hard to plan.
If you can get maybe the fire department or police precinct behind you for support and to get the word out? get community support and contacts behind you and you can probably get more than one event. maybe a MADD (mothers against drunk drivers) chapter is in your area?
check with the Lions club (they have the lionesses club as well) and other civic groups to see if they can help in any way...
a school cafeteria to hold the dinner would work well for you.(call the school district for locations)
the paper and radio/tv stations do free advertizing spots for these kind of events.
also, see if you can get a raffle going (to raise even more money during the event!) and if local businesses will offer services, gift certificates, products, etc and even food for your dinner.
maybe you know a local band that wouldn't mind playing....
this a good time to be creative!
you may have to check with your local odinances to see if there is anything you have to consider there.

Find a local senior center ( or Elks Lodge) or someplace that won't charge and recruit help in make a huge spaghetti dinner. My friends mom did that to raise money for a similar event. The spaghetti is cheap and easy to make, it doesn't have to be fancy. then recruit all friends, schools, anyone to sell tickets for twenty dollars and get volunteers to help run it. You could even try to get the food donated, it will take a lot of hard work but it really would be easy to pull off if you put your mind to it. And remember you might get 30 places to say no but if you keep going someone will say yes to help. And word of mouth, flyer's, even try to involve radio stations. Especially college radio stations.Have fun, you are a great friend with a huge heart you should be proud of yourself.

Encourage the community and school to assist and make it a large affair and well publicized. You can enlist the assistance of the home economics department at the school as well as your friends. The church is usually extremely helpful in this type of affair and often the ladies of the church know all about convening such an event. A great many things to be considered. This is worth doing.

If a thing is worth doing it's worth doing well! Good luck!
