What kind of appetizers should I serve?!
Answers: I have a couple of guests coming into my home in a few hours (this was just sprung on me, I am usually a little more organized). The problem is I don't know them! They are family friends of my husbands parents. Also, they are coming from France. My husband also doesn't know them very well. His parents asked them to call us when they got here (Florida) and they did and they took the liberty of inviting themselves over. What kind of finger foods can I make that are generally crowd pleasers and will go well with a full bodied red wine? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated....unless you're going to tell me to not let them in. I've thought of that....lol. I don't think my mother in law would be too pleased. :-)
Serve shrimp and caviar canapes, brie or roquesfort cheese,
sesame biscuits, croisants.... serve with a late harvest sweet to mild wine.. but dont be too cheap, they will know!
If you would like my recipies for these... just email me!

Cheese and crackers, olives, some sliced fruit, chips & dip.
Definitely a good sharp cheese.
Do a veggie tray. Run to the store, get some celery, a bag of pre-cut carrots and some black olives. Get a Hidden Vally ranch packet add it to some sour cream and you got dip. Add some Ritz crackers on another plate. It's to early for wine so serve some lemonade.
Don't know about going with red wine but fresh, cooked shrimp (medium) mix with mayo onion powder and 2-3- dashes of worsteshire sauce and black pepper. Top the mixture onto Triquits. Cut shrimp in half if too big for Trisquit. Just be you. Good luck.
1. My favorite is brie, heated in the oven topped with a little jam or jelly to cut the flavor. (this takes 15 minutes in the oven, no prep required, serve with rye crackers or pita.)
2. Crackers with cheese of choice, proscuito or smoked salmon, and topped with tomato slice or salsa.
Cheese, crackers, olives, apples, grapes, strawberry.....keep it simple!!!
Your in a pinch here, so try to have as much variety as possible. If you are serving wine, then crackers and cheese would be good, along with a veggie plate. Three or four different cheeses (strong or aged cheeses are better with wine) and maybe some pate de foie.
If you have time to nip out to the store you could get some pre-made finger foods frozen. broccoli and cheese are usually popular, and depending on how many you expect some other variety of hot finger food would be good. Sausage rolls or pizza bites would do.
Add a few pickles and/or olives and you have a decent spread that will make you look like a good host!!
i think holly c hit it right on the head...
brie will pair nicely with the wine.....some crackers... if you want to stay light
you could go a little heavier with melba toast topped with grilled flank steak pieces, boursin cheese and roasted red peppers
You would think to serve French H'ors D's....I would do American and also have some french cheese with crusty French bread to be safe. That's why they are here.
Buffalo Wings

Chop:
green pepper

add 2 cans black beans
1 bag sweet corn
Balsamic vinegar and italian dressing let set
Serve Scoops on the side
Good Luck
If you have to entertain strange people you don't know in your own home, you'd BETTER have wine....smile.
Crab/ cream cheese stuffed mushrooms (find a recipe with 5 or fewer ingredients)
Brushetta, brushetta, brushetta
lemon hummus with pita wedges, feta and an olive assorment
clams or mussels steamed in white wine sauce
ps. I would very purposely avoid trying to impress French people by serving Americanized French cuisine. Go with what you do best and with ease.
I would imagine this isn't your first time entertaining, so go with your strength, recipes you know and that you know have been well received in the past by guests. You could I am sure like most grocery stores now a days, have hor'dervous already done at the deli counter, etc and all you will need to do is bring them home and warm them up and put them out on some nice platters, plates, etc. They will seem like you spent all day creating and you will have a wonderful time with stressing to much.
Cheese and crackers are always safe. Veggies with dips, fruits. A variety of olives. Something sweet. As others said keep it simple.
chips with salsa and cheese
