Housewarming registry?!

Question: We just bought our firs thouse and will be throwing a combination party of our hosuewarming, our birthdays (they're in the same week), & Valentine's Day party.
My sister suggested me to register for housewarming gifts. While I have been at housewarmings where this was done before, I'm not sure if I want to. It seems kind of tacky to me.
Has anyone else heard of this and do you suggest I do it?

no, I wouldn't register. They are going to bring you presents either way you word it either by giving house presents or birthday presents. I'd suggest to word the invites something like "Our Housewarming/Birthday Party!" make them on some red heart invitations to stress the Valentines day theme also.

The first thing to consider is that a housewarming party is for guests to bring your presents to "warm" your home. Second thing is to consider is if you want presents that you did not pick out That is where registering comes in...Otherwise you could be spending a couple of weekends returning anything you did not want or already have. Thirdly if your not looking for gifts and people still ask what they can do, find a charity you believe in and ask that they make a donation in your name.

It seems tacky to me too. Housewarmings are not normally the occasion for large, expensive gifts - especially not when held in combination with your birthday. That just looks greedy.

Order online your decoration for your birthday party and Valentine's day supplies at http://www.pinatas.com/General_Birthday_...

In the invitation, don't emphasize the bringing of gifts. Express in a fun way that your combining of all these great events and you want your buddies to come help you celebrate.
If they're really your buddies, no problem. If you're handing them out at work -- very uncool.
At the bottom of the invitation, simply state, we are registered at www.homedepot.com. (then actually go do that by the way...) It's a decent choice because it will be a subtle way to convey that you're truly trying to help set up a household, not get more gifts for yourself. You might end up with 10 gift cards...YAY FOR YOU! Or, they may choose to bring you nothing. And YOU should be OK with that -- again, if these people are your friends.

i have never been to a housewarming party where the people have registered. I would think it to be tacky to register. On your invite simply state it is also your birthday and maybe people will take notice and bring you a nice bottle of wine/liqour or something nice. Anything else and consider yourself lucky. when invited to a housewarming party, i usualyy go with a giftcard to pier 1 or something like that or a bottle of their fav alcohol.
