Planning a Party - % of 'Yesses'?!

Question: I'm trying to plan a Super Bowl party (on Feb 3) and want to do a crawfish boil. I need to place a pre-order for the crawfish a.s.a.p. because they are very popular this time of year for parties and Mardi Gras.

I will be sending (hopefully tomorrow or the next day) 25 invitations for a total of 50 guests. What percentage of invitees will say "yes"? Is there a formula or rule of thumb? I wish I could wait for the RSVP's; but, I'm not able to. I need to pre-order the crawfish today or tomorrow!

Thank you so much! And as always, I promise to pick a Best Answer!

Crawfish can be frozen, which is the good thing. The second good thing is that you want to make sure you have too much food as opposed to too little of it, so that everyone will be sure to have enough. Plan on 85% of your invites to attend, then add 5 more. Also, plan on portion sizes and be generous!

Cater exactly for 50 people, the rule of thumb I was told by my cousin a chef, is you cater for the group then cater an extra 10% in case, so you don't run out of food. In this case any cancellations would give you the extra so the guests that turn up can have extra food.
