i hope this helps ,my sister and i did a party for 50 people and the food cost £40 from asda.we didnt buy all the ready made stuff as it was too dear!!(except sausagerolls)also it might sound a bit stingy but we bought value brands for most of it because in our way of thinking if people are going to get merry they wont notice the food too much!!!

It really does depend on how much you have to spend - what's your budget? Whatever you do, PLEASE don't go to Iceland. Waitrose do an excellent selection of prepared food, ideal for a finger buffet. That's if you can't afford to get some professional caterers in, of course.

Check out Iceland's prices they seem to be cheapest

HOW ABOUT SHOPPING FOR CATERERS ? 85 PEOPLE .

It depends on how much you want to spend, but allow 2.oo per head should do it. Try mini quiches, a selection of filled rolls, mini sausages, sausage rolls, sliced pork pie, salad, cold veg rice and cold pasta in sauce.

make as many things as poss but lots of finger food cakes crisps you dont have to go mad pick up frozen finger food each week instead of doing it in a lump sum and lots of buy one get one free good luck

i think £100.00 is probably what you would spend on a buffet of 85 people. i would shop in tesco or asda? their buffet food is great and cheaper than paying caterers! you should have a wonderful spread with a £100.00 pounds. hope that helps you and good luck.

Why spend any money at all?. It may seem a bit cheapskate, but why not surreptitiously ask all your friends to bring a plate with them? After all, It's your husband's party and the fact that all his friends were involved in preparing the food will surely show that they really do care won't it?.

Failing this, you could always go to your friendly local bakery and ask if you can buy a whole roll of puff pastry. Most bakers use them. They're about 2-3ft across and need to be defrosted but there's enough pastry on one roll to make hundreds of savouries and danish. Just add jam or fruit, a creamy custard and a pre-made fruit glaze or cheap ham and cheese.

You could buy in several of those triple layer DIY sponge cakes (made by the Anglo Austrian Patissere Co.. Available in some supermarkets. Plain flavour or chocolate) and make a stunning gateau with some fresh strawberries and whipped double cream. Always a popular cake.

It may seem silly, but adults are suckers for the sort of food that children have at their parties so why not a large cake covered in Smarties or just get a few friends around and make hundreds of little triangular crustless sandwiches? Fillings don't have to be complicated. Egg and Marmite?. I'm 52 and I'd love the silliness of it. Sophistication can be sorely overdone.

yeah i was going to suggest iceland b/c i thought they were the cheapest.

Why not try Marks and Spencers? They do amazing party food and it's not as expensive as people might think. They've got an incredible range of food.
